I forgot to mention in my last post,Jeannie had 7 children with my grandfather,in
1909,1911,1913 was my mother,1915,1920,1922,and1924.
If as you said she could have been born 1875 then she would have been 49 yrs. old when her youngest was born,(not impossible but highly improbable).

I think I can answer for Steve here too.

The information given was based around your info of the Jeannie Forbes in 1901 at Kilmadock.

Do you know absolutely she is your ancestor?

Did it not give at least her father's details on marriage and death certificates?

Regards,
Nel

Hi Nel
Here I must apologise to you both. The only true facts I have is that she was born in Perth Scotland and she was 30 years old at the 1911 England Census. Her death cert. and her marriage cert do not give any info on her parents. I assumed (wrongly) that her birth name was Jeannie and she was born in Perth around 1879.

There is a Janet Forbes born 17th December 1880 at Perth. The 1901 gives her name as Jean. Looks like her parents were Robert (a brewer) and Janet Christie (Jessie).

Was Robina born 1922 one of her children? The Janet at Perth has a Robina and Charles as siblings.

1881 Perth from Ancestry -

Robert Forbes   38
Janet M C Forbes   36
Charles Forbes   11
Isabella Forbes   8
Robina Forbes   6
John Forbes   5
Catherine Forbes   4
James Forbes   2
Janet B Forbes   8 MO

I don't know if it would be worth viewing the original 1901 census to see if it mentions Jean's eye. There is a column to indicate if a person is blind but since your Jeannie was only blind in one eye I'm not sure if it would be noted.

Regards,
Nel

As an aside.  My mother in law had her last child at 49 - caused great hilarity apparently.  A 12 year gap to the next sibling.

Gday Steve
I really feel rotten getting both of you sucked into the same trap I've been in for the last 18mnths.I took your advise and got a copy of Jeannie's birth cert and her parent's marriage cert from SP but I am convinced now that that is not her.
Jeannie did name her 2nd youngest daughter Robina Jean. Is that a coincidence or was Robina a popular name in Scotland then?As it is now 9-30am,I am retired and it is going to be 42d today I am going to do some serious research on Jeannie Forbes (and her sister Robina). I hope that's the clue I've been looking for.
Regards Alan

Gday Steve
Just had some mail from the General Registers Office.Seemingly they sent me the wrong marriage cert for Jeannie. This one states married Oct.25 1908 at
Holy Trinity Church Lincolnshire Glossop, age 28 spinster Salvation Army Officer. Father John Forbes (deceased).

No problems Alan,

Highlights the need to assue nothing...  :O)

So if as you say her father was a John Forbes - the only one in that timeframe - assuming that the only indication of place of birth is Perth would be the one born 1878.  Am away to check if she has a disability status on the 1901.
census.  Just back - can't easliy see here there - too many hits on SP for someone of that age - a couple of years either side.  perhaps already in England?

The fact that she gives her age as 28 I can't get too excited about.  Although that would indicate an 1880 birth.

What occupation did Mr Goodacre have?
