Thank you again for all the GORDON info. I don't have any 1881 census information, so when you have time, maybe you could look that up for me too.

The Yuill family is an elusive bunch. Seems there was a Yuill family in the same area who were also shawl weavers but they actually owned the shawl manufacturing company. I think mine were the poor relations. 
I will be back in touch later in a couple of weeks with some more requests.

Yup - no problem. I've confused matters a bit though I think. There were no other GORDON MI in Greenlaw but I thought there may be GORDON graves in the parish of GORDON since Michael was born there. I'll check next time I'm there. Are there any other parishes that you'd be interested in? The link in the first post on the thread will let you know if I have access.
I've got some other census entries for Gordon in Greenlaw that maybe of interest, I was typed out last night!

I had a brain wave and wondered if you could help me with the following when you start again in a couple of weeks. I know I said I would write in a couple of weeks but remembered a piece I have been working on that is bugging me and I do not know how to get the info I am looking for. I have tried a few ways and spent too many pounds.
These names come from a bible in our family. I am at an impasse in finding the next generation to link with my Yuill/Kennedy g-g grandparents as the surnames Andrew, Turnbull and Parker are not in my recent tree. I am guessing a maternal line.
I am hoping the MI for Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire will help me with some dates, places and people buried nearby.
Here are the names listed in the Family Bible (It was printed 1809 in Edinburgh, Haddington)
John Andrew died January 22, 1834 (Probably hard to find with such a common name but there is an exact date he died/buried). I am guessing he lived in Barony, Glasgow, Lanarkshire.
Janet Andrew Turnbull died March 1827 She married John Turnbull, May 13, 1798, Barony, Glasgow
Agnes Parker b. 1829 and died September 29, 1838 at age 9. Her parents were Agnes Andrew and Archibald Parker (they married in 1828 and I think born about 1810).
Andrew married Archibald Parker October 17, 1829 in Barony, Lanark. They also had Jean (b. 1832) and Archibald Jr. (b. 1834) Parker.

Hello Pam,
I don't know anything about Michael's parents or sibblings, so if you did look at the MI in Gordon, then you might find some of his family. (There are probably millions of Gordons!) As for the other GORDONS you gave me, they might tie in later.
The other place I am researching is Newton, Midlothian. If you have any interest in this place, I am looking for details of 1841 census for David PHILLIP b 1792 and Isabella PHILLIP (nee Sawers) b 1793 and children Jean 1830, David 1815, Elizabeth 1827, James 1825, Alexander 1822 and Sophia b 1817.

Karenn, I have connections in KIRKnewton not Newton. I'll check the film - and any other requests next week. There are no MI for midlothian that I've found - which is an absolute pain because most of my lot died before 1840!

So it looks like Michael and his wife died between 1871 and 1881 therefore they should be on http://www.Scotlandspeople.gov.uk - have you used that site? If not my opinion is that it is brilliant, it is pay per view but it works out at £1.10 for a cert which is a darn site cheaper than for england.
This would give you Michael's parents and Jean's parents as long as whoever registered them knew their names.
