Non-Conformist Registers for Dumfries

Does anyone know where these are held?  They don't appear to be available online via IGI or ScotlandsPeople and I've been told they're not held in the National Archives in Edinburgh either.

On a general note I think some nonconformist records are held at the NAS under CH3 but many are still held locally.

I know from experience that Catholic records appear amongst the parish church records in Troqueer.  What parish is your interest in?

Hi Pam

I'm interested in Dumfries.  According to later census information my g-g-grandfather, James Henderson, was born there in about 1849.  According to his sister's birth certificate his parents, David Henderson and Mary Ann Ward, were married in Dumfries 1st January 1849.

Do you have them on the 1841 census?

There is a David Henderson 15 Apprentice shoemaker not born in county and there is a Mary Ann Ward 15 female servant born in county.

The ages will be rounded but if they look familiar I can get the rest of the families?

A wee problem with this is that the books (4 to cover Dumfries) are name indexes so I won't catch people of a different surname in the same house.  It would be lovely to have these on Excel!

Hi Pam

That's great.  David Henderson's parents were John Henderson and Ann Wilkinson (according to his death certificate).  When Mary Ann remarried in 1872 she gave her father's name as James Ward - her mother's name was Mary but the surname is illegible

I scanned the rest of the books and couldn't see any other occupants for teh Hendersons.  Though it could easily of been missed.
