Welcome to Rootschat!  ;D

Do you have a birth certificate for any of the children? This would confirm the mother's maiden name.

Harriet Hopkins june qtr 1867 Neath vol 11a pg 562

You can get a copy cert from the GRO
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

As the family are in Llangadock in 1851, the most likely marriage is
William Hopkins june qtr 1844 Llandovery vol 26 pg 869 with Margaret Lewis on the same page.
A copy of the marriage certificate should give the names & occupations of both fathers.

In the 1841 census it's difficult to identify people with common surnames as   ages are rounded down and there's no places of birth.
This is is the only Margaret Lewis I can see in Llangadock
Twyn, Dyffryncydrich, Llangadock HO107/1386/14 folio 19 pg 11
David Lewis 50 ag lab
Martha 55
Margaret 15
all born in county

Dyffryn Ceidrich is now known as Bethlehem after its independent chapel.

By the way, there's no need to post the same request on more than one board. It just makes for duplication of effort.

Not sure how to start a new topic but I was after more information on Morgan John Morgan 1845-1911 (my 2nd great grandfather) and family. My great grandmother was his daughter Mary 1873-1964. I have the basics that his father was Evan Morgan but no further. My mum really wants to know more about her Great Aunt Priscilla, as Mary came over from Australia in the  1940s to visit her and mum said she was her grans favourite sister. When Mary came back from Wales, she came back with a plaque of a ship which was handed down to my  mother and will come to me, I was also hoping to find more info on this. Mum was told that Morgan Morgan took in his brothers or sisters children after the parents died, she thought it was the younger ones. Thanks
