Hamilton Edgar

I am trying to find a birth of Margaret Edgar about 1877  to Hamilton Edgar and Mary Hutton. I also can't find this marriage. It may be that Margaret could be illegitimate and be born Margaret Hutton instead of Edgar and they did not marry. It is likely to be County Down but not definite.

Hi,
    I can find a birth for Margaret Edgar whose father was W. Hamilton Edgar in Co.Down. However the birth was in 1897 and the mother was Elizabeth Martin

There's a Hamilton Edgar in 1911 census living in Co. Down with a daughter Margaret A. born c1879. The wife's name, however, is Eleanor and I.G.I. (www.familysearch.org) lists several children of Hamilton Edgar and Ellen Brown.

 ( Hugh ) to the correct parents but still can't find Margaret. As I live in Scotland - not Ireland, can you tell me what the other local town is

I'm a bit confused here. You started asking for Margaret, daughter of Hamilton Edgar and Margaret Hutton.
Now you've said that you've found another child Hugh- but his parents are Hamilton Edgar and Ann Jane Rowan.
Perhaps you can explain exact who you are trying to find (you'll have realised by now that Hamilton Edgar isn't an uncommon name in Co. Down).
If Ann Jane Rowan is the correct mother there are several more children listed in LDS records (www.familysearch.org). Ros Davies' website (link posted earlier) has more details on this family.

My Apologies for the confusion. I realised after I posted the first one that Hamilton Edgar was married  either 3 or 4 times. I can find marriages to Ann Jane Rowan and Ann Jane Malloy and another one later in Scotland. As I was having difficulty finding Margaret I thought it might be Hutton, but I have come to the conclusion that it is more likely to be Rowan as he didn't marry Malloy until 1886 and I think Hutton was a mistake in the first place.

Ros Davies' website gives Hamilton Edgar's father as Hugh Agar and the marriage to Ann Jane Rowan 1857. The I.G.I. lists 4 children for this couple- son (1864), Mary Anne (1866), Hugh (1868) and John (1872)- the last child born Meigh, Co. Armagh.

Thank you for your help. I have got these children. Still can't find Margaret . Will keep trying
