I have a little on a Kennedy!  There is not much as I haven't continued back with the Kennedys but you never know it might help.

This KENNEDY married into the WISE family whose ancestors came from Berkshire and Fife in Scotland and Surrey around 1840.  See below:

William Cummings KENNEDY Born 1867
Died 16/07/1949
Married Annie Augusta E. WISE 08/09/1928 Methodist Church Yankalilla SA
Died 1986

They one child (as far as I know)
Neil Wise Kennedy
Born 1930
Died 09/09/1978 Bordertown SA
Married.  Wife and two children living

@Abiam2,

Thanks for the reply, do you believe this was the first Kennedy in South Africa?

My apologies!!!  Disregard my post I didn't look at which country you were looking at and thought you meant South Australia.
Afraid I cannot help with South Africa,

Hi there.  I see your post is fairly old, so you may have found the information you are looking for, but here is something:

My great-grandmother was Annie Agnes Kennedy.  She was one of seven children of Martin Edward Kennedy and Mary (nee McCabe).  Her siblings were Thomas, James, Martin, Alice, Margaret and Veronica.

Martin Edward Kennedy was born in Limerick, Ireland in about 1843.  He died in the Eastern Cape in 1896.

So, does this ring any bells?  I do have a bit more info, but not much.

I believe there were both Scottish and Irish Kennedy families - so if you know which that would help narrow that down.

I have 3 siblings who came from Clonrush, County Gaul, now County Clare.  The last arrived 1850 - Matthew Kennedy (based in Kimberly), Rody/Roger Kennedy based on Sweetwaters farm, Natal, and Bridget Kennedy in Kimberly and Natal.

Matthew's daughters married into the Morrogh's and Murrays - not sure  about his sons.   Rody's daughter married int the Martin Family.

I found the South African archives are helpful as long as you have some names and dates to go by.
