Falvey
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 09:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Would anyone have anything on a Michael Falvey born about 1813.  He Had a son Patrick in 1833.  Patrick came to South Wales ( Pontypool ) He married a Mary Lundrigan in 1853 in Pontypool. Her father was a Thomas Lundrigan (Labourer). The Witnesses were William Collins and Mary Noonan. I have a feeling Patrick and Mary were born in the same area and the families traveled to S Wales at the same time.

There are a few Familys associated with the Falveys when they came to Wales,  Lundrigan, Mccourt, Noonan all either Marrying, or Witnesses, or Godparents for years.

I have always been told that they came from Tipperary,  but have seen so many Falveys from Kerry/ Tralee, thought it worth a go

Thanks for any help at all.

Hi Darren,

Not the names you are looking for, but something I came across in Portlaoise Cemetery records 1897-1990.
I have never heard of the name Falvey around Laois, so the birth place would probably elsewhere, and the fact that Dennis was a Policeman, it could mean anywhere.

Ellen Falvey; 28, RC, Policemans wife, married, Metcalf Tec., 28/8/1921
Falvey Lizzie; 11 weeks, (child of Dennis/Nellie Falvey Policeman); 1/9/1921
John Falvey; 11 weeks, (as above); 2/9/1921
(Nellie would be a 'nickname' for Ellen)
---------------
Regards,
Jack.

Hello Jack, Thanks anyway for taking the time to look for me.

Im having real problems with this, and i dont see as i can move onto Ireland with my tree, which i would love to do.

My GtGrandfather was a Man called Michael Falvey Born 1860 in Pontypool, SWales. His Father was Patrick Born 1833 in Ireland. When Michael Falvey was married in 1860 in Pontypool, His Marriage cert has his father as PATRICK FERRADY????

His mother was a MARY LUNDRIGAN. When Patrick and Mary married his name was put down as PATRICK TALVEY??? and his Father was put down as a Michael Falvey. this must put his DOB as approx 1813 in Ireland. They had kids Bridget, Kathleen and Mary as well as Michael(1860)

Im sorry if this is as confusing to you as it is to me, I understand the Falvey/Talvey mistranscribing,  But where did Ferrady come from.  as i say i Know it the right Michael Falvey 1860 and i have his Birth cert which states his fathers name is Patrick Ferrady.

Most of the older members of my family who knew them are gone, but when i spoke to them they all said they thought the Falveys came from Tipperary, but obviously i need proof. and like i said they seemed very close to the Mccourt family, which lead me to think that they lived nearby in Ireland and travelled together to Wales.

Sorry to drone on,  but i need a lucky break on this 12 yrs and this is far into Ireland as i can get.

Thanks Very Much once again

origins of names says Falvey is a english name http://Http://www.surnamedb.com

Ireland in maps says it a Kerry name http://Http://www.goireland.com    then click on Search our site, put Falvey in the box then click on Goireland.comirishsurnamesearch
can be spelt O' Falvey

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie

lots of Falvey in Kerry

if you look at the census site you might see a place that is on your marriage certificate

Hello

Thanks for looking but again this is the 1900s ,  Im sure they left Ireland in the late 1840s.
I Have the marriage cert and some censuses from wales- 1850 on,  and all that is there for DOB is Ireland.  No County or Town.

I did try searching for his name as Gaelic, in case it made any difference on Ancestry, i changed it to Pádraig Fáilbhe, (I Hope this is right) but came up with nothing. just cant understand the name change from Falvey - Ferrady- Falvey

Cheers Darren

Hello

Thanks Jack for looking again.
I have posted Patricks marriage cert to Mary Lundrigan.  it cut off at the edge but where it says -Place Of Birth -  Patrick and Mary both have IRELAND. this is in Wales in 1853.

I have no Knowledge of any family names,Places or anything from when they were in Ireland, apart from the cert showing his father as Michael Falvey. i dont know if Patrick travelled over to wales on his own, or with his father Michael. Maybe Michael stayed in Ireland??

I have also put on Patricks son also called Michael Falveys marriage cert. this shows his father Patrick. This was again in Wales in 1885.

I can only post 2 images, so i will try to post Michael 1860s Birth Cert showing his Father as Patrick FERRADY??

Thanks very much for all your help

Patricks Wedding Cert. Missing on the right hand side is  PLACE OF BIRTH - IRELAND. Just couldnt fit the whole thing onto the scanner.

Thanks Darren

Image Removed - Only a small portion of the certificate may be posted for help with handwriting.
