Hi I am offering to do look ups for the Morayshire Roll of Honour

      It lists all people who took part in the WWI in Morayshire and it usually names the parents.

 i wonder if you can help me with 2 of my relatives please they where.
james winchester, royal garrison artillery, bombadier, reg no.69004.
i would like to know what medals he was awarded in ww1, his parents
where john winchester and janet rosie. also my grandfathers brother,
john thomson winchester he emigrated to canada 1910 and joined the
canadian expeditionary forces lindsay regiment, sadly john last saw my
grandfather when they met in france, grandfather came home but
john was killed at vimy ridge 17/6/1917. his name is on the virtual memorial
at vimy in france, i was told there names where in some scottish newspapers,
i would just like any information on them both if possible,james and john both
lived in morayshire in elgin. greatly appreciate any help you can give me about them.

My great grandfather
Birth 1890
Death 24 Aug 1920 in Dr Grays, Elgin

He was a distinguished soldier who won I believe two medal and fought in France.

I have the following info

    THE LATE SERGT. D. MCLEOD, DCM -
    Many members of the 6th Seaforth Highlanders who saw service in France will learn with regret, of the death of Sergt. Daniel McLeod, DCM, which took place on Tuesday evening. Sergt. McLeod had been in indifferent health for some time past, and he died in Grays Hospital, where he had been for about six weeks. A son of Mrs McLeod, 185 High Street, he saw a long spell of service with the Seaforths, and for bravery displayed between 15th and 17th May 1917, he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. At the same time he received a letter of congratulation from the Major General commanding the Division on his splendid work on the 9th April of the same year. Sergbt. McLeod was of a bright and cheery disposition and was greatly esteemed by all who knew him. He was 34 years of age. the funeral takes place to-morrow (Saturday).

   Hi
        can you please look up for me James Winchester  sighned on in elgin 1915 army no 69004 his unit was Royal Garrison Artillery.
    he was a bombadier.   also his Brother John Thomson Winchester. john emegrated to canada 1910 he joined the canadian xpeditionary force
     but sadly he was killed at vimmy 1917. 
      Thier parents were John Winchester /Janet maiden name rosie/rose.
     they lived in Orton upper inchberry.
                   any help much appreciated.

John Winchester No 454257 Pte 21st Btn Canadians Born Upper Inchberry 1st June 1884 joined at Lindsay Ontario Canada May 1915 served in France killed 15 Aug 1917. Son of John and Jessie Groat Winchester. Occupation Engineer.

as you see they have it mixed up a bit john had the middle name Thomson not James and the Maiden name groat has me baffled.do you have johns attestation papers if not i can send them to you his name is also on the rothes war memorial i have photos of that to. do you know much about john and Jessie winchester i think i have a connection possibly. NwR

George Robertson Singer No 265044 Sgt,Seaforth Highlanders,born at Inverurie 14 March 1890,residing in Forres for eighteen years. Joined at Forres,20th March 1910,served in France,awarded 1914-1915 medal.
Son of Mr R Singer,Milton Brodie by Forres. Occupation Gardener.
Found this as well not sure if they belong to you but will send any way.

Robert Allan Singer No 317127 Spr,Royal Engineers,Born at Fourdoun Kincardinshire,9th March 1885 residing in Forres for eight years,joined Nairn 25th July 1917.served in France. Son of Robert Singer Milton Brodie and Margaret Robertson or Singer.Occupation Fruiterer and Confectioner.

Allan Singer No 043049 Lce/Cpl Army Ordnance Corps and 3rd Seaforth Highlanders,Born at Keithhall Aberdeenshire 11th Jan 1887,residing in Forres for seventeen years.Joined at Forres Feb 1915,served in France Wounded 1st July 1916, Son of Robert and Margaret Robertson Singer Milton Brodie Alves. Occupation Painter.
