Desperately seeking my family
« on: Wednesday 09 February 11 15:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I am trying to trace my family or at very least find out more. My biological grandfather was Francis Frederick Eaves (I have no birth details) who married Frances Mary Bennett who was born 25.08.1920 and is now deceased. They had a daughter named Christine Mary in the UK. Frances Mary Whittle was later married to Joseph Whittle.  They lived in Birmingham, UK but Mary and Joseph Whittle later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa and then Cape Town and had two more daughters, Sandra and Sheila.

Frances Mary Bennets fathers name was William Henry Bennett. I have one faded address that looks like 36 Srechford Road, Waid End. Mary and Joseph Whittle were married in Birmingham.

Joseph Whittle resided at 72 Woolacrmlie Road (old writing, very difficult to read), Selly Oak when he and Mary married on 23.07.1949

Joseph Whittle was married before this to Margaret Elizabeth Jackson. He owned a jewellery shop together with a jewish partner in Cape Town.

Joseph Whittle ID No : 2004245045109 and he became a South African citizen on 4.1.2001 Doc No 1558/01ks. He had I think 7 brothers and a sister named Joan.

Joseph and Marys daughter, Christine Whittle married for the second time to Andrew Arthur Fish and had two children, one being me, Jacqueline Lisa Fish.

I realise I have very little to go on but I feel lost not knowing so much about my family and advice would be most welcome as i am brand new to investigating family tree.
If anyone can help I would be most grateful.
Thank you
Jackie

FreeBMD shows a possible sister for Francis -Marjorie born to Eaves/ Warner Dec 1915 in King's Norton district (which included Selly Oak).

A  marriage is possible for her

Sep 1940  Eaves  Marjorie (*)
Genes Reunited may help you to locate living rellies

possible marriage for Francis' parents
Sep 1899   Eaves  William  to Warner  Emily at  King's N.  6c 834

that should help you locate them on the 1901 census and help you with places of their birth and ages, occupations

William Henry Bennett. I have one faded address that looks like 36 Srechford Road,

I no longer have a subscription for census records, but someone else may provide the details for the 1901 for this likely record:

William Henry Bennett and spouse Julia Alice living Warwickshire

If it looks like a possible, then this would be the marriage
Jun 1900 Bennett  William Henry    to Roberts  Julia Alice Solihull  6d 1105

their marriage certificate will provide parents names and that will lead to the next generation and earlier census records. FreeCen has very good coverage of warwickshire (1891 is 100%) and free

What is the name of Joseph Wittles father on the marriage certificate in 1949?
I hope that helps
Monique

Frances Mary Bennett's Birth Index entry indicates a different Mothers Maiden name....

Births Dec 1920

Bennett  Frances M  Plowmer  Aston  6d 787

altho, for a reported August birth, she was registered in the next quarter of 1920 .....

there are a  l o t  of William H Bennetts in the area  :(

Oooopsy, be careful folks, some of these people could be alive.  To let you know, Jackie, no stuff about living or possibly living people is allowed on Rootschat and there is a risk the moderators will pull the thread.  If you look in the Help section, you'll see the guidelines and suggestions for finding living rellies.
Perrins - Manchester and Staffs
Honan - Manchester and Ireland
Hogg - Manchester 19 cent
Anderson - Newcastle mid 19 cent
Boullen - London then Carlisle then Manchester
Comer - Manchester and Galway
