Burial near Reading - Bilibin
« on: Saturday 12 February 11 22:13 GMT (UK) »
We are looking for the burial place of the Russian journalist Ivan (John) Bilibin (26.12.1908 - 9.08.1993).
His obituary states that "his funeral near Reading on August 13 was attended by Her Imperial Highness the Grand
Duchess Maria of Russia".

Any ideas where it could be?

Hi,
You could try getting in touch with the Reading Crematorium they are very helpful there. If you explain and tell them the dates you know they may look for you to see if it was the Henley rd Cemetery
Will carry on investigating for you.

Thank you for your reply!
We did call the Crematorium about a year ago and they said he's not there.
Do you think we should ask them specifically about Henley Rd cemy?

I found an obituary in The Independent by Googling that said he worked at the BBC Monitoring Service in Caversham 1941-73.  Perhaps you could contact someone there and see if they have any records?  Or perhaps a local paper or Reading Library might be able to help you.

Good Luck, Heather

Thank you Heather

Monitoring service is sort of spying service.
We contacted them but they keep their secrets thoroughly.

So we came here hoping somebody local could know

Entries for I Bilibin in the telephone directories on Ancestry suggest he lived at Kidmore End, so I would try there.  It's just outside Reading but in Oxfordshire.

Many people whose deaths are registered as Reading died in one of the hospitals there, so it isn't always a guide to burial place as they could have come from villages up to 20 miles away.

Thank you for this idea!
I have contacted Kidmore End.
Interestingly, there seems to be some links to another Russian.
We'll see if they come back...
