Moran family Kilbride Parish
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 11:56 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my family and Know that my maternal Gt Grandfather Thomas Moran came to the UK about 1870. I know he originated from Roscommon. I believe I have found a record of his birth in The RC Kilbride parish - father Patritii Moran mother Catharinae Tully.
I intend visiting Ireland this year any help that can be provided would be thankfully received.
For example the location of the church, church yard or anyone with similar ancestors.

Hi Greygru,

Kilbride Parish is north of Roscommon Town.  There isnt a town or village there, its just a church.  I have a Thomas Moran born circa 1820, and living in Ballynameen, Co. Roscommon.  Did you get any further with your research?

Hi Tu Thanks for the info regarding Kilbride. The Thomas Moran I was searching was born about 1841. He came to England sometime in the 1870's. First record I have found is on the 1881 census he married Martha? at walsall in the West Midlands. Their daughter Winifred married my Grandfather Benjamin Warwick in 1906. Unfortunately she died in 1911 after the birth of their second child.

Hello Greygru,

I can't yet see a marriage for your Thomas to Martha? which would then give you his father's name.

There is a strong possibility  of him being in 1871 RG10; Piece: 2963; Folio: 67; Page: 21

Thomas Moran 28 yrs Tailor b Ireland

He is a visitor with a Moran family in Walsall but listed as 'niece'. It does say visitor though.

regards

Maybe you have this already, but....Your great grandfather Thomas Moran was christened on 26th December 1842.  He had a sister Bridget christened on 5th March 1844.  There is also a death of a Patrick Moran on 18th July 1922 in Lewis, West Virginia - his parents are listed as Michael Moran and Katherine Tully....could be another brother....

Your Morans in Kilbride are about 6km from my Morans in BonnyBeg.  There were Tailors in my Morans too.  No connection though at the moment !

Thanks Heywood and Tu2Tu. Information is helpful.
I do know that there were a number of Morans living in Walsall in the late 19th century so it is possible that Thomas originally stayed with relatives. My mother Dora Winfred Warwick lived with her Grandmother Martha Moran for a short tme after the death of her mother Winifred. Martha I beleive came from Bilston, but I have not been able to locate a marriage in that area.
As you comment Tu2Tu the family were tailors and I beleive it is through that job Winifred met my Grandfather who originally as a young man worked in a gents outfitters.
Thanks
Greygru
