a marriage in Ohio
« on: Friday 18 February 11 13:14 GMT (UK) »
Sorry if this is in the wrong place
I am trying to find info about a marriage between an
Ann Dibbs and Patrick Carrol
found on Family search pilot site the marriage took place
29th December 1868
what I am trying to find out is if this is the same Ann Dibbs who
emigrated from Scotland the same year
I dont know if this info would be on a marriage cert
and if so how do I go about sending for the cert
I can't find a death for her to see if it would name her parents

Hello Elaine,

Early certificates sometimes don't have the names of parents.  There are a couple of RAOGK Volunteers who do look ups in Mahoning. Ohio - would that be worth a try before trying to purchase the certificate ?
Looking at the 1870 Census I can see a Patrick and Ann Carroll in Mahoning but they were both born in Ireland (Patrick 60 yrs and Ann 51 years).  What age is your Ann Dibbs ?

Hi Sandra
that sounds like them
I dont know anything about Patrick Carrol,
I know Ann was born in Ireland circa 1818
I have her in Scotland from 1841 with her first husband
John Dibbs who died before 1851
and I know she went to Ohio I found her with her daughter Elizabeth and son in law William Smith
thats were the trail ends apart from this marriage
I will try the RAOGK volunteers
thank you very much for your reply
Elaine
added
possible it could be a different Ann Dibbs
I have just found a birth for a child to William Smith and Elizabeth Dibbs in Oct 1868
so not sure if Ann went first and William and Elizabeth followed later

That marriage is listed on the regular Family Search site as an extracted marriage record, so I'm inclined to think that what's transcribed is probably what's there.  I have an 1871 Ohio marriage record, so I'll try to find it & take a look at it.  I ordered a copy through the LDS church using this form:  http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/RG/images/FReqMicrofilm.pdf

Hi Sandra
sorry I had to pop out for a while
thankyou for taken the time to do that for me
the 1880 is definitely the right family
and I am going to check the 1861 in Scotland I have downloaded that on SP
I am sure that there is someone called Clark on there with them
so maybe the right family after all
I will fill the LDS form out see were it leads
