Erne Arthur William
« on: Friday 18 February 11 17:55 GMT (UK) »
:) Hi fellows , I am looking for the family  tree of a certain Arthur William Dennis Erne who was killed during the WWII in my town Kaggevinne (Near Diest) in Belgium. I am already busy with this case  on Rootschat among England and Wales, but gradually I begin now to think that I have more to search on the Scottish side . Can someone help me?
Herebye a little family tree ;
°1882 Arthur Victor R.Erne x 1909x with Winifred Rose Stradwick .
2 Children
 1) °1912 and died 25/6/43 Arthur William Dennis Erne
He married Irene Martin at 1936
2) ° 1914 and died 1915 Philip Erne
Thank you in advance
Luc

Where are you seeing a Scottish connection? Arthur Erne was born 1912 (GRO reference 1912 1st qtr Registration District of Lambeth Vol. 1d p. 879)

and married 1936 (GRO reference 1936 2nd qtr Registration District of Essex (South West) Vol. 4a p. 1038)

and

Philip was born 1914 (GRO reference 1914 4th qtr Registration District of Lambeth Vol. 1d, p. 711) and died 1915 (GRO reference 1915 1st qtr Registration District of Wandsworth Vol. 1d, p. 905)

Arthur Victor R Erne and Winifred Rose Stradwick married, as you say, in 1909 (GRO Reference 1909 1st qtr Registration District of Camberwell Vol. 1d, p. 908).

Given that these are events which take place in England, Arthur's last address in the UK was Leytonstone in Essex (according to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website) and these names are not Scottish it is not clear what you are looking for on this message board ...

Hi Luc

Arthur Victor Rice Erne was born on 2 Oct 1882 in St John's Wood, London, son of Amy Erne (likely an illegitimate birth).

There is an 19 year old Amy Erne showing on the English 1881 census who is working as a cook in Paddington, London. Listed as born in France, British Subject.

Struggling to see Amy and son Arthur in later censuses.

Possible entries for Amy Erme in both in both 1891 and 1901.

1891: An Amy Erne, 28, working as a nurse in Kensington, London. She shows as unmarried and now born in Portugal, British Subject.

1901: There is an Amy Erne, 38, boarding in Wandsworth, London. Still showing as unmarried and again born in Portugal, British Subject.

No sign of Arthur though.

Luc, doing some further BMD searches has potentially found a problem with the info I posted earlier  :-\ I found this Erne death in 1955. Name looks too similar to ignore, so don't know now what to think:

Arthur V Erne, died 1955 in Folkestone, Kent. Aged 72 so born approx. 1883 (Vol. 5b Pg. 666) - too close to the entry we had from earlier to ignore  ???

:) Indeed, Monica, this data is not negligible . I'm considering to possibly to order a death certificate. That would make me able to give me at least one address.
Again thanks
Luc

Just realised I am getting confused with the ERNE entries (no excuse really, there are so few!). This death entry in  1955 would likely be for Arthur Snr.....so, all is well again in my head  ;)

:) It would be of course also possible that this name was a distortion of the name Irwin or Erwin.
Not easy! Particular thanks also for the death data from the Senior Erne  and the data of Scotland.
Again thanks
