Looking for John Grist b c1665.  Married Jane Gay 1690. Lived in Faulkland (nr. Hemington/Radstock) at that time.   Any gen on other generations welcome, of course.  My grt grandfather was Ishmael Grist, b c1841 Hemington - later a blacksmith in Radstock.

Regards

Chas

Hello Chas,

I have Grist connections but they were not from Hemington as fare as I am aware.

Many of the Hemington PRs have been transcribed and are on Freereg.

http://www.freereg.org.uk/

There are baptisms of children of John and Jane Grist in the period around 1700 on there.

There is a baptism of a John Griste in Wanstrow in 1667/8. He was son of Thomas Griste. There are a number of siblings baptised there around that time.

I have seen a number of name variants for Grist and this should be borne in mind.

Jo.

thanks Jo - have had some success with other members of the family with FreeReg - good site.
2 John Grists buried in Hemington at about the right time (1702 & 1705) so possibly one of those (acc to my records John had a child in 1703 so looks like the latter)
Great help, thanks.

Nigel ('Chas') Grist

I'm also descended from John and Jane Grist, via my 3x great grandmother Temperance Grist (ur John Grist's 3x great grand daughter). I've done quite a bit of research on the family, and am familiar with your Ishmael Grist. Drop me a line it you are still interested.
