For the information of any Howell hunters. I took the advice of 'Orielbenfro' and didn't give up my search for the parents of Griffith. In 1757, Owen Howell of Henry's Moat (the adjacent parish to New Moat) wrote a will which can be seen on the National Library of Wales website. (The year under which it is listed is 1759.) Two of his sons were named David and Griffith. If you examine the signature of David Howell (a witness) on the above marriage register entry and compare it with the writing on the said will, you may conclude that they were written by the same person. Further, David wrote the letter 'e' in a rather odd way, more like the Greek letter 'theta', and you may note that Griffith wrote the said letter in the same way. My conclusion is that the Griffith and David recorded on the marriage register are almost certainly brothers and the sons of Owen Howell and his wife Anne.

If you agree or disagree with my findings, I would like to here from you, particularly if you are a handwriting expert.

For the purposes of clarity. I note that in my previous entry I said that Owen Howell 'wrote a will'. I should have said, 'made a will'. Owen couldn't write, he only made his mark at the bottom. So, someone else actually wrote it.
Sorry for any confusion that I may have caused.

Hi Omega 1. The Griffith Howell you refer to isn't on my tree, but I have a feeling that he and Mary should be. So, yes please, I would like the MI for them, and I'll try and see where they fit in. Obviously the location is important to me. Many thanks.

Read this thread with interest as I am descended from Benjamin Howell (1769).  My notes showed that the occupation of blacksmith was inherited not just by Benjamin but also his brother William who was a master blacksmith and publican.  He ran the Three Horseshoes Public House at Robeston West with his unmarried sister Celia. :)

Wow! This is all absolutely fascinating! I am also an ancestor of Griffith Howell - however my tree suggests he married Phoebe (Phebe) Morse; their son William Howell born 1845 was born to the Blacksmith family there in New Moat but eventually moved to Cwm Du, in Glamorganshire.

Anyone have any information on family pre-dating 1806?

thanks so much,
