Joseph Reading ( Quaker )
« on: Sunday 27 February 11 16:03 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I'm trying to find a nirthdate and marriage for Joseph Reading, I read that he may have been a quaker and wondered if they kept records?
I've found his death in1749  Kingston, London, but I can't find his birth, or births for his daughters Hannah 1717, Mary 1721 and Elizabeth 1734.
I read on a blog that he may have been born somewhere up north, but nobody knows where for sure  :-\
Any help would be much appreciated  :) ;D

The Quakers keep extensive records.
The Library based at Friends House is a unique resource and is one of the largest collections in the world relating to Quakers http://www.quaker.org.uk/library-and-quaker-centre

If you want to contact them see http://www.quaker.org.uk/contact-us

His death in Kingston states 'about 47' so may 1701/1702 for a birth date?  Can't find anything for him yet - still looking! In the meantime, there are  baptisms in Kingston, Surrey to a Joseph Reading and Avis? between 1719-1724  but no baptisms for the daughters you have listed Hannah, Mary & Elizabeth, so maybe not the right man ? Happy to let you have details of  baptisms for the other children if you wish.

Great to have a rough estimate of his birth, thank you!  ;D
I re read the blog about my family and it said that Mary was Mary of Wandsworth, so maybe she is Joseph and Avis's child?  ???
I think Joseph may have been a silk painter if that helps?
Bot Elizabeth and Mary married well known silk painters of that time, so maybe he was one too?  ???
Thank you for helping me look  ;D ;D

This Joseph's occupation is Barber Surgeon. The children were all baptised - Parish of Above Wansworth, Surrey - County of Abode Kingston, Surrey. We seem to have the right location, but the wrong occupation if you feel he may have been a silk painter - quite a difference between that and a barber!  Do you know if this is the right burial for 'your' Joseph? as this burial in Kingston seems to fit with the Joseph and Avis that were baptising children there 20 years earlier.

Ahhh! I assumed he was a silk painter as neraly everybody else was  :D But I think that seeing as it's the right place and time, that the barber may actually be him?
I'm only going by what somebody has written in their blog, which seems very accurate, I'll give you the link as it may help :-)

Sorry if I@m not allowed to post this, but it has information in it that might help the search :-)

Thank you again for helping me out  ;D ;D
