Hi Tim, many thanks but I had already seen that entry.  Guess I should get off my butt and actually write to the lady who put the entry in there.
Cheers
Julie

Hi Julied
My tree has William Tainsh and wife Eliza Cook. However,my researches show that William died 1 Dec 1867 and was buried Eastern Cemetery,Dundee.  The death cert. gives his parents names as John Tainsh and Ann Malloch. His wife Eliza Cook died Sept. 1861 in Dundee. I also have a copy of the OPR showing William's birth in Forteviot 1795.  Eliza was born in Ram,Cornwall in 1801.
William and Eliza can be found in Dundee inthe1851and 1861 Censuses.
I hope this is of interest to you.
Morwyn

Hi Julie

I have a Tainsh link in my tree, but it is much later, around 1890s I think (I've still not found all the evidence). It does not seem to be a very common surname.

If anyone works their way forwards and has an Andrew Tainsh (alive to have photo his taken in the 1940s) in their tree please let me know. He is driving me crazy!!

Hi Morwyn
Thanks for the info on William Tainsh.  I'm not actively pursuing this line anymore tho as my g gmother who married into the family had no children in the marriage.
Cheers
Julie

Hi,
I realise that your post was many moons ago. I am researching my 3x Gt Grand father`s sibling Peter Milne b1792. One possible marriage is to Mary Tainsh b1787 (f James, m Janet) in 1820.

You were looking more at her brother William but I was hoping you may have some information regarding Peter & Mary

Hope to hear from you soon

Hi Julie, I'm very new to this site and am hopeful will assist in my research of my partner's Tainsh family.  the people you mention I'll let you know what i have:
James Tainsh b. 1760, son of James Tainsh (b1730-?); married Janet McEwen (1761-1856) on 22/1/1782 at Muthill
They had 6 children  -David, Alexander, Mary, James, William (died young) and then last was also named William (b.1799)
William married Eliza Cook (1806-1905). he died in 1884.
Their 2 eldest sons migrated to here in Australia.....John Cook Tainsh (1825-1885; married Jane or janet Small (1825-1905) in Dundee - they had a son William born at that time, BUT can find no record of the marriage or his birth - so help there appreciated please someone :)).  The other brother William (1827-1867) went to Australia about the same time, but can find no definitive shipping records (one reference to William arriving in Geelong/Melbourne in 1852). No record of John Cook, his wife or newborn son.

I have most of this info on Ancestry.  Not sure if I have added anything but certainly appreciate anyone who might be able to fill the gaps. thanks
