Hi all,

I have 2 problems and hope you can help me.

First Robert Davies born 1861-1865 in Corwen, Wales - I'm struggling to find him on on the 1841 census. This is causing me problems going back another generation. I think his parents may be David and Margaret but not 100% convinced. Robert was initially a coachman (so assuming he may of been in service) then by 1881 becomes a car proprietor, which brings me on to my second problem. Is there anywhere he would be registered as a car proprietor and if so where would I start looking

If anyone has any ideas which will help me to move forward, I would be very grateful

Hi alijet,

I have found him from 1881 back as far as 1851, and no elderly
relatives with him to provide any clues.

I would try to find his marriage, likely to be around St Asaph's,
to obtain his father's name, then his baptism at Corwen hopefully.
From his stated ages, he could have been born as far back as 1816.

Bearing in mind his son's occupation of Cab Driver, Robert may have
been operating a taxicab company. Maybe he will appear in a trade
drectory of the St Asaph's area. Perhaps someone will be able to tell
you whether a taxi company would be licensed and regulated by the
local authority in 1881, in which case there might be records.
