John and Margaret's death certificates should detail their years in Australia ie if known to the informants?

Quote
Margaret was born in Rosscommon and John was born in Fermanagh Ireland. I believe that John's parents were: William Evans and a Anne Keohan where Margret's mother is a Susan with no maiden name given and her father is said to of been a Owen Campbell.

Ah the joys of research in Ireland :(   You are seeking records pre civil reg and need to know the parish and townlands.

Chando,
Thanks v much for all your work ;D
Regarding death certificates of Margaret nee Campbell and John Evans, there was no name place on both death certificates, as mentioned Margaret died at Kew Mental Hospital, on certificate was not much at all except her age & born Ireland, stated husband unknown, I was able to confirm that it was her as it stated she lived at Derrinallum and I did locate her grave  where she is buried with John Evans all dates match up, the graves of their unmarried children abut their own grave, but it did not tell me much more except confirm i was on the right tram.  She died at Kew Mental Hospital of Bronco pneumonia/TB a inquiry to her death was held, her coffin travelled by train to Lismore for her funeral service and a burial at Lismore.
I have found several death notices in Trove of her children and a article on her youngest daughter who received her school certificate along with two named Campbell, a Hannah and Annie ???Today found the following which could be Mrs S Campbell: New licences have been
issued to...
Darlington ; Susan . Campbell,, 10. acres,
Tooliorook,
Camperdown Chronicle
Tuesday 8 June 1880 p.2

I can say I am positive that the Susanna nee Johnstone must be the Mother of my Margaret!
Shipping;
CAMPBELL Bessy  27 years  Arrived Sep 1874 on the DURHAM Port B Fiche 329 Page 007
CAMPBELL Margaret 2 years
CAMPBELL Susan 58 years   [Could this be Margaret and William's mother Susan JOHNSTONE?]
CAMPBELL Susana 1 years
CAMPBELL Thomas 3 years
CAMPBELL William  28 years
This could be the Campbell's, this is a big guess Susan migrated to Australia with her son and daughter in-law, as Margaret nee Campbell m in 1864 so presumably this William would be the brother to My Margaret ???

Thanks once again for all your hard work,

Fran

Have just tried to find a Susan Campbell nee Johnstone death certificate  had no luck!
Therefore I presume her maiden name was not listed....

Fran I think the death certificate of William CAMPBELL would be a priority if I was doing this research.  As you mentioned that Margaret's parents were Owen CAMPBELL and Susan Unkown, I would definitely say William and Margaret are sisters.

Deaths in public institutions were always subject to enquiry.

I don't think the shipping passenger records are a 'big guess'.  Analyse the information about the family.  Dates of first born in Aus etc.

How many years were John and Margaret listed as living in Australia on their death certs?

You need certificates.

Cheers

Yes thanks for that I'm going to obtain that Williams dc today after failing to see Susan Campbell nee Johnstone DC, this will be next step. The age of William Campbell is  28 in 1888 and Margaret m in 1864 at 22yrs  so I presume it is possible. On Margret's DC there is no information regarding how long in Coloines, where as John Evans was said to of been in Australia for 32yrs in Victoria.

Thanks,

Yes Yes!! It did prove to be v fruitful indeed! William Campbell's death certificate proved that he was indeed the brother to my Margaret Evan's nee Campbell and that it is most likely that he arrived with family and Mother as you said. I now can start linking his family with Margaret's. My problem is that I cannot find the death of Mrs Susana Campbell I have tried to see if she remarried but to no avail. I also can say that the Campbell,s were native of a place called Woodfield/Woodfied Rosscommon, Ireland, so I am now hoping to trace Owen Campbell. I do not know if John Evans mother was a Annie Keohan as said on marriage cert or on John's death which states Hannie....

Thankyou so much you are a gem!

Fran if you re-read the thread you will see where Judb posted the information and link to the newspaper snippet about the fire at Mrs EVANS while she was visiting her brother Mr J CAMPBELL.  It is a good idea to read all the links posted on the thread.

It is possible that Susan WILLIAMS returned to Ireland.  I couldn't see a death for her in the indexes. It is also possible that she remarried and her death registration may have parents unknown.  I will have another search later.  It may be worth re-visiting the Lismore cemetery records.

I am a great believer in pursuing every small detail eg all the information on certificates.  So often people mention certs and say that have hit a brickwall and when all the information on the cert is either detailed on the board or the cert is emailed to me, leads are often so obvious.

You may like to post for help on the Roscommon board.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,75.0.html

You are seeking information about Townland Woodfield, Parish of Ardcarn, Co Roscommon.

Good luck.

Cheers  :)
