Riggs
« on: Tuesday 08 March 11 22:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for any information on Edith Mary Riggs, born 1884 in Mullingar. She is on the 1901 census working as a drapery apprentice in Connollys, Earl Street, Mullingar but I can't find any record since that date. Any help, much appreciated.

Church of Ireland Parish Register for Mullingar

marriage:

1890   Nov   Chrystal, William   Riggs, Annie

ditto births:

18?4     Jun   Riggs      Edith May       parents  John      Annie

marriage:

1883   Apr   Riggs, John      Snowe, Annie looks like their mariage if so.

Is this the same person?

Riggs is a very unusual name - see that there is still family in Mullingar up to 2008.

Connollys shoe shop was still going in the 1960s
so it might be worth a letter to  the Westmeath Examiner as there are possibly living family around:

The death has occurred of Roslyn BROWNE, (née Riggs) of St. Brigid's Terrace, Mullingar, Westmeath

Removal from Gilsenan's Funeral Home this Tuesday evening at 6pm to the Cathedral of Christ the King, arriving at 6.30pm. Funeral tomorrow, Wednesday, after 10am Mass to Ballyglass Cemetery.

Date published: Tuesday, February 12, 2008

A few to be found by Googling "Riggs Mullingar" In 1911 there are only 28 individuals of this surname all living in a small area round Collinstown and Castlepollard, so chances are any Riggs in the Mullingar area is a relative of Edith May Riggs.

As she was C of I, the parish might be a good place to email.

I have just come across this discussion and notice a reference to my late mothers death notice - Roslyn Browne.  There is a little history in the Riggs family Castlepollard and Ballynacargy involving a split in the family when my ancestor married a Catholic and changed religion, this apparently resulted in him being disowned.  Further info available if required
