I lived at 95 Drygate in the late 50's and remember walking past the men's model many times as a young girl. They were poor men and some drunks but I remember them handing out 2 shillings or a half a crown to myself and my younger brother, poor as they were they did that!!!!!! That's the Glasgow poor for you!!!

Just found out my Great gg granda Gordon lived at Drygate Model lodging house in 1901 census. he died in the Greenock Poorhouse in 1902 . Plasterer to trade he was always on his travels, born Perth , living in Aberdeen, Glasgow,Newcastle,Liverpool and Glasgow and finally Greenock. Funnily enough his grandson ,my granda Gordon lived in John Knox Street and ended his days in the Great Eastern Model  across the road . My granda would rather buy you a drink than give you money lol

The Great Eastern, formerly Anderson's cotton mill & then a Model Lodging House, is now converted into flats. The Molendinar burn makes a brief appearance by the west gable where it disappears into a culvert & only appears again below the weir over the Clyde at Glasgow Green, which is tidal below that point.
