Jones Family Dinas Mawddwy
« on: Friday 11 March 11 12:06 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the birth of John Jones abt 1843 Dinas Mawddwy. His father was Hugh Jones (farmer). John Jones later became a Wesleyan Minister in Lampeter and Aberystwyth.

:) If you look on the IGI you will find a John Jones Parents Hugh & mary ch at Llanfihangel-y-pennant 19/3/1843 this is an extracted record so should be reasonably reliable.
Brown, Twizell, Storey & fenwick  from Northumberland, Parkinson, from Lincolnshire, Kelly, Kinsella  & Mcguire from Ireland. Mellor originally from Derbyshire, Allens from Norfolk and Jackson originally from Sutton Coldfield.

:) Sorry thst one was no good.  I have just found 42 John Jones in Merionethshire. Did he have a middle name?  what was the registration district? I didn't find anyone at Dinas would it be too small for registration purposes? How about the census- any luck there?

Although the 1881-91 censuses give his birth place as Dinas Mawddwy, the 1871 census has Llanymawddwy.

There are no John Jones born in Dinas Mawddwy on the 1851-61 censuses but there are some in Llanymawddwy including one the son of Hugh in 1861, but he is a grocer and publican, not a farmer. Another is a servant but no family.

In 1851, there are three. One the son of Thomas, one a stepson of Richard Rees (wife Sarah) and one living with an unmarried farmer, Ann Jones.

In 1851-61, there is a John, son of Hugh a farmer, but he is at Dugoed near Mallwyd.

Unfortunately no birth records.

Regards,
David

Thanks for replying to my post and for your help. I have since discovered a sister, Sarah Jones and have applied for what I think will be her birth certificate.
