** COMPLETED ** Heversham Marriage Registers 1820
« on: Friday 11 March 11 16:33 GMT (UK) »
According to Family Search my ancestor Joseph Todd married Elizabeth Fell on 1 Nov 1820 at Heversham, Westmorland.
Joseph came from Castle Sowerby, Cumberland [Elizabeth was christened 15 July 1792 at Heversham daughter of Hollead [?] Fell] - so I am hoping the Heversham register will give more info such as his parish, occupation, or his father's name.
If anyone has access to this register I would be grateful for any futher info.
Many thanks
Ken

There was a Halhead FELL, yeoman, living at Urchinrigg in Stainton (within the greater parish of Heversham), between the years 1807 and 1812. He signed as a Testamentary Guardian and Executor of the will of Roger MOORE of Bridge End in Stainton.

Many thanks for that interesting information - I assume you got it from the actual will of Roger Moore.

I'll keep that info on file for when I start researching the FELL side of the TODD family.

Cheers

Yes, the information did come from Roger's will and probate.

Some more records:

Archdeaconry of Richmond Marriage Bonds (extracts) - originals held at the Lancashire Record Office in Preston. Copies can be ordered.

30 Oct 1820
Joseph TODD, 29{+}, Bachelor of [blank], Heversham, Westmorland
Elizabeth FELL, 26{+}, Spinster of [blank], Heversham, Westmorland
Married: [blank], Heversham, Westmorland

6/8/1787 (could be the '6 Aug' or '8 Jun', the index is a little inconsistent)
Halhead FELL, 29{+}, Yeoman of Urchinrigg, Heversham, Westmorland
Eleanor YARE, 29{+}, Spinster of Grayrigg, Kendal, Westmorland
Married: [blank], Kendal, Westmorland

11/10/1814 (again, could be 11 Oct or 10 Nov)
Halhead FELL, 29{+}, Husbandman of Stainton, Heversham, Westmorland
Helen KENDALL, 47{+}, of Heversham, Westmorland
Married: [blank], Heversham, Westmorland
[extracted marriage on Ancestry is dated 14 Aug 1814, so one of these dates (marriage or bond) is likely to be incorrect. This marriage extract also records their names as 'Hallhead' and 'Ellen']

Archdeaconry of Richmond Probate Record
14 Oct 1826 (date of probate)
Halhead FELL, Yeoman of Urchinrigg, Preston Richard, Heversham [his Will]

Some extracted parish records from Ancestry:

Halhead FELL chr. 8 Mar 1758 C&L {Crosthwaite & Lyth} s/o John FELL.
[from the detail given in the baptisms below and from the known residence of Halhead, I suspect that ALL of these extracted entries come from the *'Crosscrake' register (within Stainton) and not from Crosthwaite and Lyth]

William FELL b. 24 Mar 1788, chr. 19 Apr 1788 C&L* s/o Halhead Fell & Elinor
Elizabeth FELL b. 2 Jan 1790, chr. 23 May 1790 C&L* d/o Nathaniel FELL & Eleanor (d/o William) ['Nathaniel' is possibly the transcriber's interpretation of 'Halhead']
Elizabeth FELL b. 16 Jun 1792, chr. 15 Jul 1792 C&L* d/o Hollhead FELL & Ellinor (d/o William YARR)

Thanks for all that info.  The Newpaper announcement confirms I've got the correct marriage as my Joseph Todd was an Excise Officer when he lived in Liverpool and Manchester.
The other material means I can track the Fell family much further back. I assume the 2nd Halhead Fell [who married Helen Kendall] was son of Halhead & Eleanor though his estimated birth of 1784/5 was prior to his parents marriage.  I've found his buruial on FamilySearch in Bolton, Lancs in 1842 age 58 and on the 1841 census in Bolton.
Many thanks for all you help - it is much appreciated.

 Hello Craven481,
I've just signed up with Roots Chat because I see that you have Storriths, Dixons and Cravens on your list. My ancestors the Dixons lived at Storriths and, connected to them, I also have Cravens! My great grandfather was Samuel Dixon, son of George, grandson of another Samuel, who was born at Storriths and then went to London.
I would be interested to hear your connection

Hi
One of my wife's great grandfathers was George Dixon born Addingham, Yorkshire, 1830, son of George Dixon born Storriths 1794.  This may be our common ancestor as our George junior had a brother Samuel born Addingham 1826 and moved to Islington.  Our George moved to Manchester from where our tree continued.
We have our tree on Genes Reunited and Ancestry but not open to public access.

Yes, that Samuel, born 1826, is my great grandfather. I can see your wife's great grandfather, George, on my family tree which has been passed down in the family. She and I must be second cousins! I also have that her George had two children, Elizabeth who married a Simpson and Joseph who married and lived in Manchester.
Going further back, to Samuel's and George's grandparents, I have Samuel Dixon of Storriths married to Martha Craven in 1789. Is this where your Cravens fit in, I wonder?
I send my best wishes to my newly-found second cousin!  Diana.
