Nurse Gladys Crane

Trying to help a friend trace the owner of a WWI autograph book but have scant details to start with and wonder if anyone can find any clues.

Gladys Crane was at Sandgate in 1916 and later Rouen, France.

Searched 1911 census for 'gladys crane' with 'nurse' as occupation but no result- suspect she didn't start nursing just before or after start of WWI.

Also searched for medal card but only found 2 nurses named Crane (Mora Annie and Evelyn S.).

Any clues or ideas where to search next greatly appreciated.

just looked in tna docs online and found 2 records for a gladys crane
gladys c crane voluntary aid detachment 1914-1920  wo372/23
and this one for the air service
gladys crane service no 28219 14 mar 1919 air 80/53
also did a google search for army nurses and got this site www.womenhistory.co.uk/
this just has an email address on the home page but does world war one womens service records -nursing records

Many thanks for such a quick response. The VAD nurse Gladys C. Crane looks slightly more promising based on what I can remember of the book.

Gladys Constance Crane appears in the British Red Cross Society of Overseas Volunteer as a VAD, and consequently is likely to have some service details held at the BRCS archives.  Details of how to contact them are on this page:

VADs were rarely nurses before the war, and often well-bred young women with no former occupation.
