found another possible match for the Grant family - a Richard Grant and Mary Phelan appear with the same references for a marriage listing in Abbeyleix district in 1892. Bang on the 'years married' listed by Mary on the 1911 return - that plus youngest sons name I think would make this more likely father for David than the Peter I found...

There are several Richard Grant deaths around the right time - including one in Abbeyleix district in spring 1910

Could you give your opinion on the birth place of Catherine Phelan nee Gaffney in the Cencus it looks to me like Brennan, and theres a Brennan near Carlow which is not too far away

the enumerator has a 'Queen's County' to all the places of birth.

He has strange 'B's, and I dont see an 'r' in there... looks like B.nn.n to me - so I'd say add two vowels

Based on the fact that Michael has recorded townland names for the others (Boley, Tonduff...), I'd expect the same for Catherine

it's been transcribed as Kennen during the digitization... I suppose it could be a K, problem is there's no town or townland that I can see with that name either

My Grandmother was Annie kennerney one of the twins. She was married to my Grandfather James kennerney who came from Castlewood Durrow. There were two more sisters. One was Sarah Watson who lived in Abbeyleix. The other was Mrs Grant also lived in Abbeyleix as did her identical twin Brighi
(Mrs Rowe). There were 7 Sisters. I think the twins were brought up until they were 7 in Grennan Attanagh. I have so enjoyed your research and making the connection to Grennan. My grandmother was in regular contact with Grennan. Bill Mooney and Martin were her cousins so there Mother was Granny's Aunt. i am now piecing it all together
Kindest regards
Ann Bonnie O'Keeffe (Kenna)

Ann

Wow, this is a surprise I have information on the Kennerney and the Phelans, the Kennerneys are a nightmare to research as the spelling of their surname changes so many times. I have sent you a Personal message with my email address in it drop me an email and we can exchange information.

Our Grandmothers were sisters, mine being Margaret Phelan born 1875 that would make us second cousins :)

If you look back in this thread I was looking for the birth place for Catherine Gaffney, our Great Grandmother, could this place be Grennan rather than Brennan?

Regards
