Hi George

The other children have been given the surname PENHALE, yet in the Protestation Rolls, Peter is GONINAN. He is also GONINAN in the Church seating plan... what a thing to find !!

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~althea/Church%20Seating%20Plan%201666.htm

Peter and Margaret were buried as GONINAN, whereas a son James was buried as a PENHALE.

This is interesting

Wonder if his wife Margaret GAWAN is the one baptized 1598 father JOHN GAWAN ( married Janne ? 28 Oct. 1593). There is a Will for a John GAWAN in 1607, he was an accountant.

Hi Claire,

Thanks for all that. As you say, most interesting.

Yes, Margaret GAWEN (22 Apr 1598) was indeed the daughter of John GAWEN, but I have no other details of him. Could you point me to his Will, please?

Regards

George

Claire,

   Thanks.

Your second reference confirmed date and occupation. Unfortunately, your first reference resulted in a 'cannot access' note.

I am related to this family and what a headache they are giving me with all the different variations of the surname and the alias Penhale too.

I am stuck on a couple of ancestors. I have Joseph Gorninnan born 1744 to James in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, England, but can't find mother at all.

I also can't find a baptism for father James but believe he is the son of John Goninnan and Thomasin Williams in breage as I have dna matches which all connect from them through to Richard Goninan (Penhalle) and Mary the parents of John.
