Hi stephen7,

I just had a quick look on FreeBMD & there is a death entry for a Catherine Mordecai, in 1859 in
Bridgend  Glamorgan:

Volume: 11A
Page: 325

Could it possibly be your Catherine's mother? (Just a thought).

Romilly.

Hi Stephen I have a lot of info on the Mordecai families.  The name is also interchangable with Mort.

I do not have a lot of time at mo, but as soon as I get time will see if I have info on your Catherine, or point you in the right direction.

See this post is quite old.  Let me know if you still looking.

1841 This looks like a very good possiblity.  they are not related to my direct line.  But nearly all Mordecai /Mort are relate from the early 1700's apparently from three brothers.

If you google 'mordecai or mort glamorgan' there are some theories why the name is interchangable.  some stick directly to one name or others change back and fore.

There is a lady who has done a 1 name study on the families, will pm you her email, she will poss confirm what I give you or point you in the right direction. If you find out the line let me know I have info on marriages.

Hello. I am a New Zealand based Mordecai. Descended from Rhys Mordecai b1881 near Llantrisant parents Evan b1853 and Maria. As it is very difficult researching from New Zealand, I am very curious to contact anyone who may have knowledge of my ancestors, or also be their descendants.

Evan Mordecai was the brother of my greatgrandfather Oliver Mordecai. If you wish I can give you details going back several generations.
Were you aware that Evan and Maria Mordecai were cousins
