Hi just thought you'd like to know that the pub is now called the melbourne and is still there. I'm going to a cemetry that is only 5 minutes away from this location, if you want me to look for any markers let me know.

I'm struggling to find a Richard with father John that I'm sure about, so I keep going back to Jane's family.

possible death reg
William Jenkins 41 march qtr 1883 Gower vol 11a pg 502

Ann's remarriage?
Ann Jenkins sept qtr 1887 vol 11a pg 1064 with William Thomas on the same page (I've found a cenus entry for the other 2 on the page)

possible death regs
William Thomas 47 sept qtr 1890 Llanelly vol 11a pg 458
William Thomas 59 march qtr 1890 Llanelly vol 11a pg 690

I was wondering if the Eleanor Thomas was a daughter of her second husband, so was rather surprised to see there was an Eleanor in the earlier census entries. Possible enumerator error?

uurp,

Thanks.  I would be interested to know of Ann is buried
there, whether her marker says Thomas or Jenkins (and
maiden name if possible), and who she's buried near.  A
photo would be priceless.

I believe the old Melbourne and Odd Fellows Inns were
knocked down to build the present Melbourne Hotel:

osprey,

I went back to the census record for John Thomas that you had
posted earlier in the thread.  It shows a son William as well as
Richard, but that William is just a bit too young (by ~5 years)
to marry Ann Jenkins.  Also, that John is deceased by 1871 and
not a farmer.

The 1886 marriage certificate lists William Thomas as a witness,
and John Thomas as a farmer.  I suppose it's possible that
Richard was not even born in Llanelly, but in a farming district
nearby.  Does Richard's address on Christopher St help?

BTW, while searching for the Odd Fellows I found an old post
from 2000 on RootsWeb from someone looking for info on
Mary Ann Jenkins who was married to Robert O. Jones in
1885 and listed her residence as Odd Fellows Inn.  She is
the older sister of Jane and listed on the 1871 census.

Regards, -K-

P.S. I note that Elizabeth A Thomas servant 17 general servant b. Pembrey
is living with Ann at the Inn in 1891.  Perhaps Pembrey might also be
the birthplace of Richard Thomas?  I also see a Richard b. 1861 in
Glamorgan but can't view the record.

1891 has a Daniel Griffiths born Llangendeirne at the Christopher Street address, with wife Ann born Llandyfeilog. It's possible that Ann is related to Richard, but I'm not spotting a likely family at the mo.
