Hi jrocket,
Thanks for getting back to me. I now know the John Fraser married to Isabella Henderson was a labourer not a flesher.

How did you confirm these were the correct parents for the John Fraser married to Isabella Henderson - so many John Frasers about?

Recap of the people we are talking about:
John Fraser and Isabella Henderson - parents to James born about 1777 and this child:

James Fraser and Jane Lorimer - parents to Andrew born about 1804 (8 other siblings)
Andrew Fraser and Martha Cooper - parents to 'my' James born 1829 and 'your' Margaret born 1839.

I was working in conjunction with another distant family connection that I met via the internet several years ago when we managed to find connection, but have seen online someone else who had the Fraser connection and they also had same parents for John.

I've had a wee look at the Frasers born Rathen alone 1700 through to 1800. Around the 1750s an Alexander, James and Andrew Fraser were having children (only one birth in the 1750s shows the mother and that is conveniently the one for a John Fraser born 1750 - out of wedlock as it happens).

The OPR record birth for this child born to John Fraser and Isabella Henderson shows him born in Ardglassie...
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYF6-ZYR
The OPR for the James born 30/04/1776 is also born Ardglassie to a John Fraser (no mother mentioned) - however the witnesses are a James Fraser and an Alexander Henderson. I think this may point to James Fraser being John's father rather than Alexander Fraser? Still digging...

I have found another paper from my files which show that Alexander Fraser who was the father of John Fraser who married Isobel Henderson was the son of William Fraser and Sophia Greig both of whom were born early 1700.

It's interesting that in the early 1700s there appears to be a good number of Frasers fathering children in Rathen including men called Simon, Peter, Patrick, Hector, George, William, John and Andrew.  Then by the 1750s there's just Alexander, James and Andrew. Wondering what happened to all the Frasers of Rathen?

I can see a birth of an Alexander to a William in 1729 but no mother listed? I'm struggling to find any reference to a Sophia Grieg other than this one:

I've had a look at the OPR for an Alexander Fraser born in Ardglassie, 1784 to John Fraser.  If this is the same John married to Isabella that would mean the sons run - James 1776, Alexander 1784 and John 1786.
