Anything would be useful from the family line from Elizabeth/Jabez and back.  One of my aunts said that she thought that there were travellers in the family, which might be backed up by the fairground connection.  Did you find anymore out about this?

Yes they were travellers lived in caravans John street barnsley.Jabez had swingboats and travelled about that's why some of his children were born around the country.I will get my book out and have a look can't  remember of the top of my head. Are you from the Barnsley area?

I'm not from Barnsley but my grandfather was from there. He moved away after the war as he met my grandmother.

Were the other Batty's travellers as I can only see them recorded as coal miners? Working in a fairground is certainly not something you'd fall into unless there was some family history of it.

Batty does appear to be quite a common name when I'm searching the records so it would be good to know if I had found the right people. Jabez is also a strange name which I haven't come across elsewhere. I know that Elizabeth Batty called one of her own children Jabez so it must be a family name.

Yes thanks. I haven't had the time to look at it in detail yet but I'll look over the weekend.

Thanks, I'll have a look. Unfortunately I've been ill so have not had chance to do any family tree stuff for a couple of weeks.
