Low Hill Cemetery, Everton
« on: Sunday 03 April 11 12:42 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if this cemetery still exists please?
Have a burial for a Thomas PINNINGTON on 13th May 1830 that I'd like to follow up on if possible.
Cheers
Annie

Hiya Annie...have a look on here ....Low Hill cemetery is officially the Necropolis , Cemetery in Everton...Everton Cemetery opened in 1880 and Low Hill stopped taking bodies
.if you get no joy let me know....I live about 8 miles away...and have a free bus pass  (I`m a wrinkly )...so if you get no joy , I`ll go to Low Hill on the bus and let you know what the local pub is like as well ...lol

According to www.lan-opc.org.uk it was laid out as ornamental garden in 1914
Internments stopped 1898

Alot of the register of internments is on the above site. Certainly the early entries are there.

Thank you both Allan & Gibel.
I've emailed the online parish clerk to see if they have any more info other than what's listed on their website - occupation/relations/headstone etc just to help confirm this is my Thomas.
There is also an Ellen PINNINGTON buried in the same grave and I think this is his mother.
Special thanks to Allan for your kind offer to have a look for me...will keep you posted if I have no joy  :)

There are no headstones whatsoever in this park it is just a green area for locals to walk their dogs. Grant Gardens is the name of the park.

The Necropolis is now, as Susie says, Grant Gardens and opposite Brougham Terrace which used to be the main Register Office for Liverpool.  It was a very popular place for wedding parties to have the photographs taken after the ceremony, I often wondered if they knew what used to be beneath their feet.

I believe some of the inscriptions are listed on the Gibsons Epitaphs, these are held at the Record Office and have also been transcribed onto CD, a copy of which can be obtained from the Liverpool & SW Lancashire FHS - their online shop is available http://www.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/acatalog/index.html
