No evidence of John Ainsworth in 1861 Beds name index. Are you sure that he survived so long?

1861 Langford census Ainsworth
« Reply #4 on: Sunday 15 May 05 12:54 BST (UK) »
Hi
No I am not sure he was still alive. I only have his name from marriage of his daughter Emma to John Aslett at Southwark in 1850. IGI shows a Emma Ainsworth with parents John and Charlotte, chr. 6 Jan 1828 at Langford, Beds.
Census for 1871 shows her as Emma Aslett and born Langford, Beds.
John Ainsworth marr Charlotte Squire 4 Feb 1827 at Langford from IGI.
I have found nothing on this John Ainsworth with wife Charlotte as yet and had been hoping he was alive in 1861.
I suppose next is to look at 1851 census in Langford though there may be a Charlotte Ainsworth on 1861 census if he had died.
I will also try Southwark in case he moved south.
THanks
Annieh

I've checked 1841 Langford and can't see them.

Searching  the IGI just using the parents names (John Ainsworth and Charlotte) throws up a Charlotte christened 4 Oct 1829 in Shoreditch. Whilst this may be a different couple it looks suspicious, and coupled with their absence from Langford in 1841 makes me wonder if they moved down to London after the birth of Emma.

Have you checked the Langford parish register to see if there is any indication on the marriage entry as to where John was from?

Regards

David

Hi David,
That was quick and thanks. No I have been on Hols and not got back into things. It is all for my sister in law. I have not yet checked the marriage registers but was going to try Southwark census next.
I think I will do what you suggest as if they are not around in Langford 1841 it looks more like they moved.
Thanks Annieh

I suspect that it may have been a second marriage for John, so he may have been a bit older than you thought (perhaps not though, as Charlotte appears to have been christened in 1798)

There's a burial in Langford on 10 Nov 1826 of Sarah Ainsworth age 29. There's also a christening of Frances Ainsworth in Langford in 1820, parents John and Sarah.

regards

David

Hi David,

I have just been on to 1861 census on 1837online but no John Ainsworth in Southwark of right ages.

1 possible John Ainsworth age 62 a baker, born Amersham Bucks. It is not that far from Langford [southwest] but he is in Islington registration district.
Widower. Dau Sarah age 26 and son George age 24.

Emma Ainsworth married John Aslett born Islington in Southwark!!

Talk about getting sideways, etc but I will get there in the end!
Anne

Looks like I need to find death of Charlotte Ainsworth nee Squire now.
