Missing Lucas !
« on: Thursday 07 April 11 14:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anybody help me trace this person (and family) in 1841 & 1851.

John Lucas, born about 1820 in Whitehaven, can be found on the 1861 census with his wife, Margaret (who was also born in Whitehaven), living in Thornley, County Durham.
They have five children with them:
Elizabeth, aged 15 years and John, aged 13 years, born born in Whitehaven.
Margaret, aged 5 years, was born in Castle Eden, County Durham, but Frances, aged 2 years, was born in Whitehaven. Son, William, who was a month old, had been born in Thornley.

I need to find out who John's parents were, when he married Margaret and where he is on the 1851 and 1841 census.

There are a few Lucas families in Whitehaven so it is difficult pinning down the right one without having to resort to certificate buying!

Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks Sue

Hi,
yes, you are right! The names, John and Francis, run through the family so it would seem that John and Francis where one of the same -odd!!

Thanks again,

Sue

Hi

I don't know how odd for then.

Some of mine changed repeatedly between two christian names for no apparent reason, and a couple of them chose one which had no real reason I can find.

Good luck!

Hi

I have started looking into this family tree for a friend and I am also baffled.

Francis Lucas is almost certainly called John Lucas in 1851 with wife Margaret.

However, in 1842 there is a marriage in Whitehaven of a Francis Lucas and there is also 2 Margaret's that are possible spouses.

And in 1843 there is a marriage in Whitehaven of a John Lucas and there is also a Margaret as a possible spouse.

I have found that there aren't many records that have been transcribed for Cumberland so it's hard to trace this line.

Thanks

Darin.

I have investigated a bit further and there is also a John Lucas from Whitehaven in various census with wife Matilda Lucas.

On the marriage page from 1843 as well as a Margaret as possible spouse there is also a Matilda Moor, so I think that's who this John married.

1843 marriage entry for John LUCAS indicates one of four females including Matilda MOOR & Margaret McKINE
