Anndelina Finlay Howatson
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 00:45 BST (UK) »
Hello

I can't remember if I posted this already, I've been looking into it for well over a year now.

I have the 1881 and 1891 Census for William and Janet Orr (ms Gourlay), listed in the 1881 Census is Anndelina Findlay Howatson (though that's not how it's spelled) she is 11 months and listed as a "Visitor"

On the 1891 Census she is still with Will & Janet but this time she is described as their adopted daughter.

I finally found her birth cert she was born 1 Apr 1880 to Elizabeth Howatson (dressmaker) there is no father listed and she registered the birth.

I can't find any trace of Anndelina on 1901 or 1911 Census although it's possible she got married I can't find a marriage either.

I can find no trace of Mum Elizabeth either; any ideas?

Thanks
Heather

Hi

Heather i can help you here

Andelina was the daughter of Elizabeth Howatson born in Dalkeith on 14/2/1855 the youngest child of James Howatson and Elizabeth Sim or Sime.

Elizabeth also had an illigitimate son called James born 1877, he was raised by his Aunt Marion Brown (nee Howatson) on his marriage certificate James Howatson Brown married Agnes Liddle and states that Elizabeth was subsequently married to what looks like John Henderson-the writing is feint.

Andelina married Peter Campbell Catton in 1911 and died at Carnegie street, Edinburgh in 1955.

my gt grandfather x 3 was Samuel Howatson who would of been Andelinas uncle.

HI

Thanks for the response and I'm really sorry for the time it's taken me to reply.  Do you have any idea why she would be living with William and Janet?  Is one of them some how related to her?

Thanks
Heather

Hello, I am Andelina Catton's granddaughter.  Andelina had 3 children to Peter Catton.   My mother Margaret MacDonald was the youngest.

Hi

Andelina's mother Elizabeth was the youngest sister of Samuel Howatson- my great grandfather x 3.

Elizabeth Howatson had at least 2 children out of wedlock Andelina and James Howatson Brown.
