Hi Rena

A very interesting site.  You are right.  No 20th century emigres.
Right now, I feel like I am throwing darts, trying to figure out where to start looking.  That is why I was hoping to find their marriage.
Unfortunately, my expertise is in Italian research, not Danish.
Does anyone have any clues on the marriage search?

Thank you,

Jim

I did not know about it, but that was from my daughter.
Thank you for pointing it out to me.  I think she has given up the quest.  I have not.

Connecticut death certificates ask for details like birthplace of deceased, names of both parents, etc. Since her husband was still alive and quite possibly know that details they might be on the certificate if he was tghe informant.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I hadn't considered that route.  I think her husband was very ill at the time of her death, however, I would be remiss in not checking it out.  I'll apply to the city of Hartford this week.

Does anyone think there is much chance of finding the marriage record?

Thank you

Jim

Well, I retrieved Marie's death certificate today.
She was simply listed as being born in Denmark.  The informant was my father.  Info about her parents was noted as "unobtainable", except her dad's surname was listed as "Brammer".
I'm afraid I am back to square one again. :(

Does anyone think I will be able to find her wedding documents?

Thank you

Jim

It's true the border of Denmark went back and forth with the German border. This happened quite often in Europe due to war and other conflicts. I know of people from Czechoslovakia which lived in the same town for years but the borders changed. So When I asked them where they were married, born etc they just smiled and said it depends what year you are looking at. Sometime it was Prussia, sometimes Czechoslovakia and sometimes Poland.
So look at both possibilities. It just depends on what year it was.
Good luck
Hera

I agree and I fear this may be one of those cases.
I have found similar circumstances in my wife's family tree.  Somehow, they always involve Germany. ;)

Thank you

I think I have further confirmation that grandma's surname was Brammer.  My father's baptism record confirms the family lore.
I also could not find a marriage record in Varde, where their 1st 2 children were born.
I am thinking that she must have been born and married in Schlesswig-Holstein, a Danish/German area of Europe.  I have not been able to find access to any records from this area.
Does anyone know of any resources that might lead me to some valid records for this area?

Thank you,

Jim

I believe I have good news.
I just received Marie's Naturalization documents.  Unfortunately, it didn't require her to list her maiden name.  I still believe it was Brammer.
The document states she was born in Thorstrup, Denmark on 23 Apr 1884.
It also states she was married to Mathias Andersen on 21 Sep 1902 (I assume in Thorstrup).

Actually, I have her name in my tree as Sorrine Marie Brammer.

Now the problem.  I am unable to find Thorstrup in Denmark.  There is a Tirstrup but that is the closest I can come.
Can someone please help steer me back on course?

Thank You,

Jim
