I haven't got access to my records tonight but if my memory serves me well pretty sure john who arrives sa in 1849 is william bonear son.   Phillipa died b4 he comes to saus and he does indeed marry caroline as a widow   the 2 girls marry the pethicks and I think 1 child also died but I will certainly confirm what I have for you tomorrow. ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆

How have you gone with this?

I am struggling with John Male born c1811 and shipped to South Australia 1849. Both Lavinia and Mary his daughters married Pethicks.

I , like yourselves , looked at Cornwall OPC and could only see a Mary born to John and Anne Calecoat. But I had also seen John arrive unmarried and a hint that Marys Mother was Phillipa Allen. Searching FindMyPast I have all these -John marrying Phillipa , Lavinia and Mary born in Lanteglos by Camelford?

My original John was the 1809 born to William and Elizabeth , yet a marriage at age 13 to Anne confused. I then switched the 1801 John , but still wasn't happy. So I stopped.  ;D

Is John still related to William Bonear ? I have seen a reference to a John Male Marrying a Caroline Hewitson in 1869 where he states his age as 54 and father as William Bonear ( Caroline was 22) . I just figured he was a dirty old bugger who adjusted his age as to not seem a , well ,  dirty old bugger.  ;D

    Any help much appreciated.

Hi   here are my records so I hope is of some value to you.... you probably need to verify/confirm it but it is how I have it....

Caroline Hewitson (her date of birth is meant to have bean 30 March 1848 but I haven't verified that)(daughter of a William Hewitson)

    Cheran , thank you.

It was how I had gone about it as well. Except I had difficulty matching 1809 John Male with an 1822 marriage. So the 1834 marriage plus other info would be confirmed.

I had the other information , it was more tying up the Cornwall side and you have done that so thank you  :)

    Also a Burial;
CHRISTOPHER Male 1 July 1832 St Teath age 92 :)

    Thanks for this

It all seems pretty much how I have in the data base

so this is how I have plotted it in my data base

Nicholas male buried 1743 (no bapt or earlier record found yet) married to
Phillipa Rowe  (daughter of Christopher Raw (Rowe) and Bridget Ellery baptised 6 June 1686 St Teath Cornwall)

their son Christopher Male  I have never found a baptism but he marries
Joan Bunt (born abt 1712? daughter of William Bunt and "Jone") 1 October 1738

Their son Christopher bapt 25 March 1741 -   Lanteglos by Camelford, Cornwall
marries Phillipa Rowland 29 June 1764 St Teath
    Phillipa's burial: 19 June 1765       St Teath
Their son John burial 7 June 1765 St Teath

    Christopher next marries
Jane Anne Bonear 1 August 1772 St Teath
(baptised  25 April 1743 St Teath (daughter of William Bonear/Beneere and Elizabeth Rundle))

Christopher is buried 1 July 1832 and Jane buried 11 February 1843

They have 4 boys that I have

John    bapt 18 March 1774      John buried 16 Mar 1813
    Moses  bapt  29 June 1777
    Moses marr
    Ann Trevan 10 July 1803
they have 2 children John and Ann
    John bapt 10 Jan 1804
    Ann Bapt 5 Mar 1806
    Moses died 11 Dec 1806  bur 21 Dec 1806
Ann Trevan buried 8 April 1812

William Bonear bapt 27 Aug 1780  marries 4 April 1801 to Elizabeth Mary Lane

Nicholas  Bapt 30 October 1785 marries Sophie Gibson 14 March 1820

I have recorded that Nicholas Male (born abt 1721 buried 17 September 1782) son of Nicholas Male and Phillipa Rowland marries 30 Nov 1757 St Teath
    Margaret Lang
(bapt 7 February 1721 buried 20 September 1795 (daughter of Nathaniel Lang and Grace)

I have recorded that the Nicholas Male ((bapt 30 Dec 1749 st teath died 23 Aug 1830 buried 26 Aug 1830 St Teath) a brother to Christopher and  son of Christopher Male and Joan Bunt))
marries 7 January 1776 St Teath.
Elizabeth Bonear(?) the sister of Jane
Elizabeth Bapt 28 Jan 1755 died 30 August 1819 and buried 2 Sept St Teath

As my my direct interest is Nicholas Male who marries Margaret Cobbledick and emmigrates to Willunga South Aus, (the son of William Bonear Male), I haven't always done all the references but have found the Male/Meale/Mall and Bonear/Beneere/ family very interesting to follow hence I just keep the database up to date with how I read it but it could be incorrect but it is an interesting family and having been to St Teath I found it so interesting how they all seemed to interact especially with the Slate mining industry!!  and I been very graciously helped by a "Male" descendants in Canada and South Australia and Victoria so not all my research.

I hope these are of some value!

    Cheers

Thank you Cheran. In that case you are related to my son through my ex-wifes family. Through John and his daughter Mary who married Christopher Pethick.

And as you say the slate industry was very helpful to them in Willunga.

I have (photocopies) pictures from a history of Willunga of Mrs Anne Male ( wife of William) Daughter Bessie and Hannah

Pictures of the Willunga Hall Committee which includes JRP Male (John Roberts Percy) - Father Francis
