Sorry, just while I'm here I thought I'd also ask about my G-G-grandmother, Annie Broadfield. She was married to Henry Hallford (Name spelt 'Orford' this time on the marriage record) and I was just wondering if anybody might have any information on or connections to her..? :) Thank you

Annie Lydia Broadfield was born in 1868 in Tipton, Staffordshire and she married Henry Orford (Hallford) in 1889 in Middlesex. I have no idea what background her family was from and was wondering if they might have worked on the canal too?

Many thanks and best wishes,
Tansy

Tansy,

it might be better if you start a new topic with the details of your g-g-grandmother Annie Broadfield so that people don't get too confused.

If you buy the marriage cert. you will have Annie's fathers' name and can go back from there.

Hi DandoT,

My mother's paternal line of the family are all Halfords from Castle Donington, Hemington, Lockington and Kegworth.

I thought I would list my grandfathers I have found in case there are any links. If there are, let me know as I might have some info you don't have, or vice versa!

2nd: Brian William Halford b. 1930 in Castle Donington - married Kathleen Mary Smith.
3rd: George William Halford b. 1903 in Castle Donington - married Violet May Murcott.
4th: Harry Halford b. 1874 in Hemington - married Mary Hannah Johnson.
5th: George Halford b. 1848 in Castle Donington - married Sarah Jane Jarvis.
6th: John Halford b. 1817 in Lockington - married Elizabeth (unable to find maiden name).
7th: Thomas Holford b. 1767 in Lockington - married Susannah Castledine.
8th: Thomas Holford b. 1743 in Lockington - married Ann North.

Would be great to finally find someone searching the same family in the Leicestershire area!

Hello
I come from the Harrison line of boatmen when they retired off the cut my Grandparents settled in
West Drayton & a lot of my time was spent at Cowley Lock. my granddads sister also settled near & was married to a Sibley these where my Godparents . Harrison,Sibley ,Wood, Nixon from this area are all connected to my family tree
There where 2 x Halford familys in the  Brentford area & baptism records 1900/1910 era
list George & eliza  as George as a boatman abode given as Manny Smiths boat  another he is listed as a Bargeman it does not say thames or water Bargeman so its a strong possibility that he  could have been on the canal on a wide boat as my GG Grandad was at the time as Manny Smith had wide boats on the canal these could go up as far as Birmingham also the church the water or thames men used was a different one than the one they use this was the canal boatmans church  also a Richard & mary baptised children in the same church he is listed also as a bargeman
