please see above link to photo i asked help to date and sharpen. I think its South Ayrshire and theres an outline of a building in the distance left. I think its WW2. Am going ask armed forces forum for help too. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I agree the cap badge could be Cameron Highlanders. I don't know much about it but I imagine it is also common to other regiments associated with what was the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforths & Camerons) and included the Liverpool Scottish battalions.
Have you reason to think it's South Ayrshire? If so, Craigie House in Ayr comes to mind as a possible location. Suggest you also contact www.ayrshirearchives.org.uk
who might be able to help you.

Also note you have an interest in Gordons - would that be Gordons in Ayrshire? If so we may have similar interests.

Hi,
Thanks for your input.This is a bit of a long shot really I think.
I am guessing at Ayrshire or Wigtownshire for location as that is where most relatives came from.However i suppose it could be anywhere soldiers were sent to recover. Blimey this is impossible. All I know is that there is a relative of my grans in the photo. How do I find out what regiment my uncle was in in ww2 please as one on right looks very like him.?

You are right - it could be anywhere.  If you look in the Military section of this forum (scroll down the front page) you'll find lots of tips to help you. WW2 records ares still held by the Ministry of Defence although you can apparently access military records through sites like Ancestry. You will need some essential information before you start, e.g. full name, date of birth, which service etc.  Ideally, you should have a service number - this opens a lot of doors quickly. I can't find the address to write to but I'm sure if you post in the military section someone on this forum will be able to direct you.  What was your relative's name and which town did he come from?

If you haven't got anywhere with the ayrshirearchives try the Burns Monument in Kilmarnock they hold a lot of records you wouldn't think they would, you will get the tel. no from the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock.  I remember my mum telling me years ago that there was a hospital in Kilmarnock used for recouperation, can't remember its name though.

Know it's a long time since your post but this could possibly be Ballochmyle Hospital in Mauchline.

It was used for troops recuperating from wounds in WW2

I visited my uncle there .

I saw German prisoners of war working in the gardens on my visit.

Hospital closed down and houses built on the site.

My uncle Thomas Gordon b 1919 was invalided out of Egypt in ww2 . He could not wear the uniform, was sunburned and badly blistered due to being allergic to his uniform and was hospitalised for a while on his return.

    Have looked at photo on page 8, can't be sure if it's same building as photo is blurred.

     Going on what I remember visiting there during the war I'm inclined to think your
     photo was taken at Ballochmyle
