SANDERSON - Romanno Bridge, Newlands c1800
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 03:58 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Looking for the marriage of my 4g.grandparents William SANDERSON and Helen WILSON in Newlands parish c1808 and his father Peter SANDERSON to Grizzel/Grace NOBLE in Newlands c1775.
It seems that William and Helen only had the one child, William SANDERSON and that Helen, his wife, may have died shortly afterwards.
Haven't found burial records for either Helen or Grace.

The family lived at Romanno Bridge in early 1800's at "Noblehall" - wondering if this farm may have belonged to the NOBLE family earlier.

Grateful for any assistance  ...   Jim

If you can't find marriage records for Newlands Parish it may be worth a look at the neighbouring Parish of West Linton.
Noblehall Farm is currently still a working farm and is owned by the Anderson's.
Hope this is useful

Thanks Mrs A.
Might need to broaden the search a little.
There were ANDERSONS and CUTHBERTSONS also associated with Romanno Bridge and the SANDERSON family in mid 1800's - was your NOBLE family from this area.

Hope I've not confused you- the Nobles are not ancestors of mine, I just live near Romanno Bridge. The Anderson who now owns the farm came to it through his late mother's side- don't know if her maiden name was Noble but shall make enquiries.

Hi

I am researching Sandersons in Peeblesshire and have a copy of William's will as he was a trustee for one of my Sandersons.   In his will he left money  to his brothers and sisters families and does not appear to have had any family - He left £8,417 and ther was a further inventory later.   I am presuming you have his death certificate.   He died in Edinburgh and may be buried there and there may be a stone.  If you are still looking for more info I will look at my notes and can send them to you.

Anne

Hi Anne,

I have seen a copy of his death certificate - not sure if he would be buried in Edinburgh or taken back to Romanno Bridge vicinity where he had a farm earlier. My understanding is that his only child William died in 1848 at Goldies Mill, Romanno Bridge. - his wife Catherine and the children moved to Edinburgh in the 1850's. William snr had moved closeby in Edinburgh at about that time.
Would be very interested to see the notes you may have regarding the family - will put email address in Personal Message.

Thanks mrs a
- the first part gives best indication of birthdates for William and Catherine so far, and where they were buried.
Did not realise there was another young son Peter who died just after the next baby was born - thus he was renamed Peter.
Not sure where the other Sandersons fit in.
 Appreciate the help  ...  Jim
