Augustus, Alfred Slade
« on: Monday 02 May 11 18:15 BST (UK) »
Trying to establish where in France Augustus Alfred Slade was born! His father was a British subject who lived  & died  at Boulogne, France, but cannot find where Augustus was born, no record of him in Boulogne area. Although I found a census in UK stating he was born Toulouse, B.S France, I have written to Toulouse and no birth recorded. Any clues....

Thanks,

Fran

Hi Fran

Everything here except any dates lol. Do you know what year he was born if you have seen him on a census? Also do you know what his Dads name was as well,.
A little more information might help to find him for you

Yep sorry about that up to late last nite and should of included that info!
His fathers name was Ernest Augustus Slade and I have obtained his death certificate Boulogne 1868.
His son Augustus Alfred was born abt 1837 and died in London 1895. Augustus Alfred mother unknow this is what I am trying to find out. His father married a Sarah Bickie so the Slade family say but no certificated can be found, from this union there was a daughter Augusta b.1852, there were a further two children one of them my direct line here in Australia, so as you can see a v mixed up family with lots of half brothers and sisters very hard to sort out!

Thanks,

Fran ::)

More background information:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,510315.0.html

If he wasn't registered as "Slade" or he wasn't registered in Toulouse itself but somewhere nearby it might be hard to track.
Possibly you should look for the others mentioned in the report on his father's will (might be worth getting a copy of the will itself). "Mrs Peter" is interesting - in 1871 Augustus is a lodger with "Sarah Peter", 71, b. (I think) Tamerton Devon, a widow. The other name mentioned may be a French connection.

I wonder if "Mrs Peter"/"Sarah Peter" could be the mother of "Sara"?  freebmd shows possibly "Sarah Bickle" marrying "Samuel Peter" in 1839.

Also, the death of Mrs Sarah Slade in Boulogne-sur-mer in 1876 is also registered under "Sarah Bickle" (see indexes at http://www.archivespasdecalais.fr/Archives-en-ligne )

Possibly if you can work out where the Bickle/Peter family were in earlier years, that might help work out where Ernest was around the time of Augustus' birth.

 - the name "Pornin/Pournin" is found in France so it could be someone he knew there (friend/neighbour/relative of Augustus' mother?)

http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm#005
 - you can write for a copy of the will
