Thats very interesting to know - might mean that if Frederick had children I could have relatives in New Zealand right now!  ;D

Thank you all so much for your help - have run out of money to go buying the certificates for now so will just have to keep my fingers crossed someone comes looking on here for me

Hi, Re New Zealand connection - I have a photo which was found in Isabella's belongings daughter of William & Sarah. There are no names she has written on the back 'Brown Decedent's 1936 London' It is a group of around 40 people of all ages including small children. The men are wearing suits and a spray of flowers in their button holes, ladies are wearing hats. They are all standing on the steps of some building with two large columns in the background, I suspect it is a family wedding.
I can email a copy to the people who were researching and if they could name some of them that would be great.

Hi Nic have been looking at my Brother in Law's WELCH family and have a Jessie BROWN b August 28, 1883 (Unknown Location), the only Jessie BROWN I located born on that date was the  daughter of Sarah Ann & William BROWN (NZ BDM Birth ref 1883/13646-Brown -Jessie -Sarah Ann-William). Jessie BROWN married Ethelbert Joseph James WELCH February 5 1907 at Masterton, NZ (TBC). Jessie WELCH died October 6 1959 at Masterton. There was one child that I am aware of at this stage Rewi Braithwaite WELCH 1908-2001 Rewi had 2 marriages M1 Rose Maleta DONNELLY 1938, Rose died in 1940 M2 Isobel June WATT 1943.

I have only just started to look at this twig but looks like it could be connected especially given Rewi's second given name Braithwaite.

Hi - re New Zealand connection.
I can confirm from my research that William Brown and Sarah Braithwaite had seven children (based on online birth records available at www.dia.govt.nz). The children were: Margaret Anne, Isabella, James Braithwaite, Jessie, George Gordon, Thomas Braithwaite and Frederick Gilbert.
William Brown was a boatman in Timaru, New Zealand. The boatmen were employed to ferry cargo between ship and shore, because Timaru didn't have a real harbour. Sarah was a dressmaker.
Jessie Brown was my grandmother (although she died when I was quite young, so I didn't know her). Jessie married Ethelbert Joseph James Welch in 1907, and divorced her in 1939. They had one son, my father Rewi Braithwaite Welch, who married Isabel June Watt. Rewi and June had four children. So yes - there are some NZ relatives.
I don't have any photos of Jessie unfortunately.
