Penninghame/Newton Stewart

Hello,
Please can you help me because I am confused  I am researching my family of Livingston and Milroy, I cannot understand if they lived in Penninghame or Newton Stewart as both addresses seem to merge.  The address is Queen Street Penninghame or Queen Street Newton Stewart. 

If anyone can help either with the address problem or the families I would be most grateful.

I noticed you have surname Ferguson. My Fergusons came from Wigtownshire, Penninghame and Newton-Stewart too. I know very little about the addresses but if I'm not mistaken Penninghame is a church parish, Wigtownshire is a county, and Newton-Stewart is a town.
Like my Andrew Ferguson who was a grocer in Newton Stewart lived (and worked) at 27 & 29 Arthur St., Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, Scotland. His death is listed Newton-Stewart, Penninghame, Wigtownshire, Scotland. That's the best I can describe it.

Hi Kathy,

I have Milroy's from Newton Stewart in my family tree. I have the addresses as Penninghame, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.

William MILROY was a plumber and married Anne McLean MOFFAT - Moffat being my ancestors. Anne was a daughter of Joseph MOFFAT (my GG Grandfather) who was also a plumber.

William Milroy & Anne Milroy (Moffat) had a daughter Catherine Johnstone MILROY -she married a a Willam Mitchell.

I have 1800's letters from Newton Stewart and the surrounding crofts but unfortunately they do not mention Moffat or Milroy. I will be glad to look for other surnames.

I just noticed that you also have MCLEAN  as a second name so it was probably a family name. I do have letters mentioning variations of that name if you are interested.
Lettter from Oct 1864 says "John McClean and his wife are both well but their family scattered likewise." It was from father in Scotland giving news of friends in Scotland. Sorry it did not give more detail but all of these people mentioned lived around the crofts of Baltersan or Clary just a couple of miles south of Newton Stewart.

I don't know where the McLean came from. My family tree is MOFFAT. My GG Grandfather Joseph Moffat had his plumbing business, in Newton Stewart.

My GG Grandparents Joseph Moffat, his wife Catherine Johnstone and family are buried in Penninghame Old Kirkyard as well as some Milroys.

I posted this in another spot but it didn't go into your stream about Milroy. MILROY is mentioned several times in Gordon Fraser's humorous booklet about Wigtown Whithorn and the N-St area.
