RIECK then RIEK. My ancesters from Prussia Germany
« on: Thursday 05 May 11 13:07 BST (UK) »
I actually found this place after researching my family ancestry. There name is Riek and was Rieck in Germany. Our family came here on several different ships: The Herschel, The Reichstag, the Fritz Reuter and I'm not sure about the Helen. I know now they where on the Herschel and there parents where on the Fritz Reuter. They travelled with the Kerwitz family on the Herschel who where then cousins or in-laws and The Raddatz Family who also where then or to be married into our family.
I found some of this information here and hope I can make contact with the family who placed the plaque on Christov Rieck's grave at Rosevale Queensland, Australia. The dedication was by the family of: Wilhelm Friedrich Ferdinand Kerwitz and wife Friederike Ernistine [nee, Reik] came from Gierswalde Ukermark Prussia "Germany'' and arrived in Australia on the ship Fritz Reuter in 1878 and went to live in Rosevale Qld...Died 1934.
I believe this was the Kerwitz Family. Christov Rieck was my great great great grandfather.
If you could help I would appreciate it.
Allan Riek

As that plaque is quite recent, have you considered writing to the Rosevale Lutheran Church ...

Allan,  the Pastor has changed (as per the link to the church),  the second link is for the headstones in the cemetery .... and there is a photo with phone numbers etc of the Pastor whose name is mentioned on the plaque ...

Thanks for your replies it is great to hear something about the ancestors and how life was then. I heard my Great Great Grandmother never learned to speak English. I don't imagine her father in-law spoke English either as He didn't come until he was 63 years old. He was Christov Rieck. Buried at Boonah, the one on the plaque at Rosevale cemetery. He came with his Daughter Granddaughter I think and the Kerwitz family in 1878.
Thanks and any more info would be great.  My dad is also happy about the info. He has been helping me name the people in our old photo's, and to remember who was who. Allan Riek

This was Wilhelamine  (Minnie) Rieck (nee Lindengerg) who came out in 1874 on the Fritz Reuter with the Kerwitz family. They settled at Ocean View Mt. Mee. Farming, dairy and banana's. The second is my grandfather Basil Uhr Riek with his mother Neva Riek and his grandmother Wilhelamine Rieck.
