Priscilla Jones

Hello all

All we know of my great grandmother Priscilla is that she married John Marriott, died in Bendigo, Australia, and was buried 17 June 1938 alongside John.

We know John was born in Winwick, Hunts. abt 1868, was the milkman in Bendigo, and named his house "Winwick".

We believe Priscilla was Welsh, and we think she had a marriage prior to John.

Yes, Priscilla married John in Australia.  Mum, who turns 89 tomorrow, says grandma's first wedding was not spoken of, other than her being married to "a Ballarat solicitor".  We do not know his name.

We do not know when John emigrated, other than it being prior to 1893, when my grandfather John Emmanuel was born in Bendigo.

A Priscilla Maria Jones first married a Richard Oddie in Victoria in 1875.Then a Priscilla Maria Oddie married a John Marriott in Victoria in 1892.

Those dates are appropriate.  Grandfather was the first child of the second marriage, and born in 1893.

I've found a nugget (if you'll excuse the pun) to back up your research.

Richard Oddie, a Ballarat solicitor, witnessed a document establishing "The Success Gold Mining Company Ltd", with 50 twenty pound shares, on 9 April 1864 (Vic Govt Gazette 12 April 1864).

So, Jo, we're looking for the birth, maybe in the 1850s, of a Priscilla Maria Jones.

Cant see any Priscilla Marie Jones registed (on Freebmd) in 1850s in any welsh county. There are over 20 Priscilla Jones births registered in 10 year period. Any idea of DOB from death details or marriage info.

Her Death Certificate gives her her name as Priscilla Marie, father Phillip Jones, mother Winifred Davis

Some other details have come to light on http://www.marriott-family-tree.com , eg burial details, and daughters names by her first marriage to Richard Oddie.  She is I674 on that tree.

There is a Priscilla Maria Jones born Jun qtr 1869 in Bangor, but this would make her 6 on her first marriage!!. No other Priscilla Maria (Marie) Jones listed in Freebmd.
