any history of Baptists in the family or did they marry in a Baptist church just to confuse? Given that I can see a baptism for son for son Edward in Llandough 2/4/1865 IGI extracted batch C056781, doesn't look like they were Baptists. My ggrandparents married in a Baptist church for no obvious reason.

So the baptism in Kerry in 1818 looks to be a strong possibility. What details for the father of Edward are given on the 1847 cert?

There aren't that many Edward Davieses in Kerry in 1841. Think I ought to give you this one because of his occupation

Hot House, Cefy y Berthllan, Cloddie HO107/1439/17 folio 8 pg 13
Edward Davies 40 gardener
Elizabeth 35
Sarah 9
all born in county

can't see this couple as yet in 1851 for places of birth.

Nothing known of any baptists (or any strong religious sentiments in this branch) - maybe it was the widow Griffiths.

The Edward you found in Llandough is my great grandmother's youngest brother (and the second attempt at an Edward - the eldest son died).

Father on marriage cert is Edward Davies labourer

My memory reference to 1883 should of course have been 1983!

I was told that my Edward calling himself a gardener on the 1881 census was more to do with his employer's delusions of grandeur (he was one of the legions of ag.labs before that.

he's enumerated as gardener in 1871 as well.

Progress at last.
Hanna Pugh was baptised 24-3-1793 at St Michael and All Angels, Kerry, daughter of Joseph Pugh and Ann Pugh! (from what I can see half the population of Montgomeryshire were called Pugh - an ancient Hugh must have been very fertile!)
Joseph and Ann were married 8-5-1787 at St Michael and All Angels, Kerry and had Sarah 1788, Elizabeth 1791, Hanna 1793 and Susanna 1795.
The best prospect (of about 500 suspects) for Joseph is born in Welshpool (about 12 miles away), so this line goes on ice for another 6 years I suppose.

I am assuming now that the 1841 and 1851 Census entries osprey posted are 'my' Edward and Hannah and I have them on 1861 as well, I am assuming Edward lied about his age so his wife wouldn't be recorded as so much older than him.

Not sure whether to treat the 1841 Richard and Susan as children or grandchildren for now.
