1901 census Davie/Hampton
« on: Friday 13 May 11 11:58 BST (UK) »
hi all  :)

james davie hampton marries elizabeth oliver muat in jan. 1924 monikie angus
he gives his age as 22 , he gives his parents as george hampton and helen milne

there is a marriage for george hampton and a helen milne in 1907(not looked at)

a birth for james davie hampton in july 1901. he is given as illegitimate and his
mother is jessie hampton(he is born st cyrus kincardineshire)
there is an RCE to the birth dated june 1906 relating to paternity
it names the father as james davie farm servant ardownie monifieth

i suspect that james lived with george hampton and helen milne(1911 census)

can anyone find jessie hampton and james davie on the 1901 census ?

with thanks

Hmmm.
Were Jessie and George, sister and brother?
Did Jessie die after the birth of James, and George along with Helen adopt him?
Were Jessie and George together in the 1891 census? Curiosity got the better of me. They were in Montrose.
There is a James Davie in St Cyrus in 1901. He is 18 years old at the time.
There is a Jessie Hampton in Arbuthnott in 1901. She is 16 years old at the time.
George and Jessie are not togther in 1901. Presumably they are working apart from one another considering their ages.

Regards

Malky

hi Malky  :)

there must be a good chance they were brother and sister , but i don't know for
sure i was just trying to get an idea of how old jessie and james davie were in 1901

checking on the index of the 1911 census there is a george hampton age 33
with a helen and a james hampton age 9 in angus(think i'm going to have to look at that to confirm my thoughts)

the people you have found look promising  :)

i have found no evidence of a death for jessie

1906 paternity
"at the insta(i)nce of jessie hampton residing at kilando parish of garvock against
james davie farm servant ardownie monifieth"

it would appear that jessie was still alive 1906

ev

ps george age 13 , jessie age 6 montrose angus in 1891 ?

Parents for 1901:

James Hampton 60, ploughman
Jessie Hampton 60
David Hampton 33
Harry Hampton 12
Agnes Hampton 11, granddaughter
Charles Stewart 4, grandson b. St Cyrus

Address: Nether Warburton, St Cyrus

Location of parents would fit well with the birth of young James Davie Hampton a few months later. What was the address for his birth?

Some further info here on the family (use your 'find' tool - lots of info on there - and search for 'Jessie Beattie') http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bp2000/summaries8.htm

james davie hampton was born at nether warburton(looking good  ;) )
found the family in 1881(mother as jessie B hampton)and the IGI seemed to confirm the mother as jessie beattie (before washing and cooking got in the way)
also found a couple of trees at Mundia website
