Roscommon location
« on: Tuesday 24 May 11 10:14 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

can anyone tell me  where is /was Groghan or Graghan, is it a parish, a district etc and what RC records dates are available for all Co Roscommon. Thank you in advance.

I'm Involved in a general search for Cunningham and Roan (Ruane, etc) families in Co Roscommon I have some info like from 1846 (I have marriage Farrel Roan-Mary Cunningham Strokestown 1846). Trying to find a Sabina Cunningham may have  been Mary's Ma, older sister, aunt etc.

Does anyone know what RC parishes have the oldest records as Farrel/Mary may have only arrived there in Strokestown to get hitched and maybe from eleswhere ? They left Co Roscommon before Nov 1849  for Northumberland UK (If they are the same people). where their first child Winifred (to my knowledge) was born Nov 1849  They appear in UK 1851 census  Farrel Mary and Winifred aged 1 (born Nov 1849 in Northumberland uk).The kids in later census records in Northumberland UK where Winifred, Anne, catherine, Farrell, Bryan, Thomas,  Mary and Sabina, I think there may have been a child John who died not sure still hunting. Cheers if anyone can help. I am searching the net daily doing my best, paid for a few records one looks good for Mary 1826 mother Winifred dad Thady (Thadius I beleive?) in Boyle parish. thanks anyway!

Croghan?? About 6 mile from Boyle
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

As your dates are pre Civil Registration in 1864 you perhaps should try :
Co.Roscommon Heritage & Genealogy Centre at Church St., Strokestown,Co. Roscommon.
Contact Email : info[at]roscommonroots.com
Contact phone : 00353 719633380

They state as having Church & Civil Records  pre 1900 .
Tithe Applotment Books circa 1820
Griffiths Valuation circa 1856
Elphin Diocesan  Census  1849
Other historical data.
Hopt this helps.

Thanks a lot for your time. I drove down to Strokestown last week and paid for the search after finding my ancestors marriage there. Just thought I could look around other sites. Thanks again!
