Afternoon - I know we need the rain but as I cannot get into the garden I am trying to find out more about the above property - presumably it was a public house.  (There is a Gate Lane in Stelling but no pub now).

I cannot find it except in the 1881c. with Sarah Causins 65 with her son Thomas 45, g/sons George, Thomas and John.

The only Thomas b. 1846 Guston I am unable to find a marriage.  I have found Thomas Cozens 1868 Elham 2a/1564 4q. but no other names are coming up with that reference.  I was expecting a Sarah? as I though Thomas' father was George.

I hope somebody is able to find out more as I think the name should be Cousins (or similar spelling) and may show up on other sites.

    The pub shows as just The Gate on later Censii. With John Hopper on one and Ellen Tilley on another as Landlords.

Regarding the marriage in 1868.
I think Thomas Cozens married Elizabeth Ford 4Q 1868 Elham
Looking at Freebmd and FindMyPast records and comparing with actual images ,I think the references have been slightly misread.
On FindMyPast
Elizabeth Ford 2a 1561 (image looks like 2a 1564)
Thomas Cozens 2a1564 (looks correct on image)
Freebmd
Elizabeth Ford 2a 1664 (wrong on image)
Thomas Cozens 2a 1564

This would tally with the 1871 census Rg10/1019  44/6
There is a Elizabeth, Thomas and George aged 0 in the household.

Morning cath151 - thank you for taking time to look into that for me - I had his wife as being Sarah?  But then the 1881c was showing Thomas' mother as Sarah when in fact she was Mary Ann Swain.  Obviously when in doubt put 'Sarah'!!!

Could you tell me where Thomas and Elizabeth lived and where born in the 1871c?
