Emigration to Brazil from Switzerland and Germany
« on: Thursday 26 May 11 17:32 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My name is Adriano and i live in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Near to Nova Friburgo, where it was founded the first Swiss settlement in Brazil, in 1819. And the first Germany settlement, in 1824.

I´m looking for my ancestors: Laurent Hardi and Victoire Deiss, from Aargau, Switzerland; Urs Joseph Schumacher from Jure of Bern, Switzerland; Claude Stucky from Firbourg, Switzerland and Johann Heinrich Schenkel from Hessen, Germany.

I put some information abou these families and others in the blog: http://embuscadopassadoperdido.blogspot.com/

Thanks

Adriano Guedes Carneiro
Teresópolis-RJ

Hi Adriano

Welcome to Rootschat! :)

I actually looked at your post because I'm researching a family who came to Brazil - eventually Rio de Janeiro in the 1820's.  They came from the UK.

I was interested to ask your advice on the Brazil side.

However reading your post, I will leave that for a new thread.

I'm wondering though, if you might get more response to your own question if you changed the heading to one concerning Switzerland and where yopur own ancestors are from.

Just a thought!

A beautiful place to come from - I had some amazing holidays working there when I was a student - a long time ago!!

Hi again :)

Just a little note to say thank you!

I love your site - so much information on Swiss and German immigrants to Brazil.  I love the pictures too and the passenger lists.

In fact for anyone with family from Switzerland or Germany - take a look!

I will check which German families our English family married into.

Thank you again! :)

If you haven't already added this to the resources for Europe and for South America, I thinlk it would be really valuable.
