Both the names Ferris and Cardwell feature in my family history that I've been researching in Tonaghmore and Saintfield.
Eliza Ferris was a witness at one of my relatives weddings. Ellen Batton married James Gordon in 1st Saintfield Presbyterian Church in July 1867 and the witness was Eliza Ferris.
My Batton and Massey families were living in Tonaghmore at the time of the 1863 census (Alexander Massey, Robert Massey and George Batton) and their neighbour was William Ferris. We think that Eliza was the daughter of William.
Alexander Massey died in November 1872 and Samuel Cardwell was appointed executor of this will.
Perhaps they were friends and neighbours. I can provide you will copies of the above documents. But I'm afraid I don't have any more information on the Ferris family.
A family member visited 1st Saintfield and was able to document information from the registers there.
Regards
Sandra
